How long are you going to keep your truck?

Who knows? I could make do just fine with a number of smaller/more effecient vehicles. Don't really use it all that much as it is, mainly a family hauler a day or two a week. But it has treated us well and I like having a Full Size V8 4x4 on hand.

I will have to keep my current truck for a few more years as I have to pay off my daughters student loans from college as they graduate in may 2015.

By the time they will be paid off the truck will be so old that it may not be worth much.

But my truck serves my needs so no need for a new truck until it costs more to repair vs buy a new(used) truck as they are expensive to replace frequently.

I'll keep my 02 sub until i die. My first vehicle got for christmas when i was 16. Only 109K miles when i got it. It was made in 01. Thats a little less than 10K miles a year. However according to carfax the previous owner fell behind on payments (when it was new) On the warranty history the only issue was replaced radio and abs sensors. - according to GM's history

Been there. My youngest finished her 6th year May 2013. I had to wait til August 22 for my double cab to be built.

 

She has been working full time for over a year. I worked hard to keep things paid for during school, and she only had about 29,000 in student loan debt last year at this time. She has taken care of a large part of that already over the last year.

 

I keep my vehicles a long time, and usuallly have over 250,000 miles before I sell them. By that time, they usuallly don't owe me anything.

Keeping mine til it no longer runs. I've had it with payments. This is payed off and runs great.

I wish I could keep mine a long time, I put on way too many miles to keep them more than 3 years.

I bought my 2007 with 180k January this year with a 5 year loan ( paid 13k OTD ) . I plan on keeping it atleast 1-2 years after the loan is paid off then purchasing a new/newer truck. I am a firm believer in buying used to save money.... granted my next truck will be a low mileage truck only a year or two old saving thousands ( depending on dealer offerings )

I have yet to ever see a used truck with low miles worth it over a new ones as long as rebates are around. Your telling me you would rather pay 36k for say a slt with 20k on the clock over a brand new one at a cost of 40k after rebates? Not only that you get the full warranty, you don't have to worry about who or what previously had the truck and your loan options will be better buying new. Sorry but that old school thought of saving all kinds of money buying used stopped long ago with 10k rebates on the hoods!

O no I wouldnt make a decision like that... I always look for the best deal... I bought a new Lancer a few y ears back because it was cheaper than used.... Was just stating that I would look for the best deal used or new.

Ok, bought my 2006 over 3 years ago. With the 48,000 miles I've put on, it's worth $2-3k less. I bet I've put $1,500 in repairs that it needed. Now find me a brand new vehicle you can drive 3 years and take a $4,500 hit. You won't. Not to mention higher cost to insure and the load of cash you have to drop. Don't have the cash? How much is the interest going to cost?

 

That said, I would never take out a loan on a vehicle with 180,000 miles. I'd rather have an older vehicle with fewer miles than a newer vehicle with more.

First truck went to my little brother in August, with 152k on it. Planning on keeping this one until something goes very wrong with it.

I've said this to myself for a few years now but the real plan for this truck is to retire it from dd use asap and then just use sparingly while doing as much as reasonably possible in restoration/maintenance.

 

Whether another truck will replace it I don't know since I would like a relatively efficient and fun car to whip around.

Is there any advantage of taking 5 year loan on 13k? I'm confused
