A Merry Christmas for Me

So, Friday on my way home, I got to meet some very nice people. A nice man driving an Infinity at 6 miles an hour, a BMZ X5 who realized this too late and rear ended the Infinity. I got to meet these nice folks because although I tried to avoid it, I rear ended the BMW. FORTUNATELY, no one was injured. Just a little vehicle damage. I could really use some assistance from anyone that is familiar with the air bags. They did not deploy although I was going around 30mph when I hit the BMW. Is this normal? I wouldn't think so. As a matter of fact, I had to call ONSTAR and notify them I was in an accident. I was under the impression it was the other way around. Below is the result.

Sorry to see that, the airbags didn't deploy because the sensor wasn't damaged, it simply hit to far to the right, I would be glad they didn't go off, unless you really need them they will hurt more then help.

That hit looks to all be above the frame and not very hard, I wouldn't expect the air bags to deploy with the damage I see there

Sorry about the accident. Good thing no one was hurt. Boy it doesn't take much to cause a lot of damages to your truck.

The accident sucks, glad you and others are ok. Yeah you didnt hit the sensors for the airbags to deploy and those sensors is pretty much which calls onstar too. I hit a guy in my lower bumper and it didnt deploy airbags or call on star, gotta hit those things just right, which imo is a good thing.

Thanks for the sentiments.

I'm glad the air bags did not deploy, I was just concerned that there may have been an issue that would have prevented them going off.

Hoping to find out the extent of the damage before the new year, but I'm not sure that will happen given the holiday schedule.

ouch, just went through the same thing on mine. except it was my drivers side...your looking at 10-12k worth of damage for sure. mine was 8k and not nearly as beat up as yours...glad to hear every one is uninjured though

I was told by an auto insurance claims adjuster that each airbag deployment = approx $2000 per bag. They will save your life but are very expensive to repackage and install.

If you weren't injured then maybe the airbags not deploying is correct thing to have happened.

Anyway, glad that everyone is ok.

dear god! The truck is more damaged than the car lol

first off, let me join those in say glad you weren't hurt, and also shocking how much damage your truck sustained and how little the BMW did.

glad your ok, the accident "type" in which you were in causes the most amount of damage. when I say that I mean hitting the front left or right corner instead of distributing the impact throughout the whole front of the truck. that's why the damage looks so bad. I am assuming that you were not at fault either given what you said happened which is also a good thing. good luck with the repair!

I don't know about Texas but Nebraska believes there is NO excuse for a rear end collision. Their theory is if you hit something from behind you were either too close or not paying attention and you will be charged for the wreck.
