A Merry Christmas for Me

I don't know about Texas but Nebraska believes there is NO excuse for a rear end collision. Their theory is if you hit something from behind you were either too close or not paying attention and you will be charged for the wreck.

yeah in Texas it is not like that. If it is a three vehicle wreck like the OP said it was i.e. vehicle one stops, vehicle two then hits vehicle one because he is not paying attention, and since vehicle three stopping "space" has now diminished because vehicle 2 crashed vehicle two would be at fault for the whole accident. If you think about it that makes sense and is fair. if the OP has to pay for his truck and the back end damage of that BMW then that is BS.

dear god! The truck is more damaged than the car lol

Glad you're ok, but your truck defiantly got the worst of things. Man, is that because of the cheap sheet metal? Keep us posted on the repair.

If I were to guess, it has nothing to do with sheet metal. Looks like the headlights took the worst of it from the get go, then add energy absorbing front crumple zones & you can see the result.

Exaggerated version of what I am talking about here...

Yep, good old crumple zones as they call them. I understand the reasoning behind them, but it's still hard to except how they crush like a soda can. Just seems cheap. Glad your okay OP.

I'd feel the same about getting a new truck. But often, the owner has no say in the decision.

Airbag deployment involves specific conditions to occur. An SRS system uses accelerometers to determine impact severity and direction. Without looking into the data at moments before and during the accident, it's difficult to judge whether airbag non-deployment warrants further investigation and diagnosis in the SRS system to determine if there was a component that was out-of-spec.

very true, if mine is hit within first 5 years my policy is written to give me full replacement value. but im sure it has to reach a certain amount of damage.

personally if ine ever is hit and not written off ide fight for them to compensate on a trade in.

I'm sure a decent body shop can make it good as new. I'd be more worried about your vehicle record showing it being in an accident, thus lowering your resale/trade in value. Who was found at fault for the accident?

Most insurance companies don't total a vehicle until the repairs go beyond 65%

My truck was hit and bent the frame and twisted the bed and had the have $8k worth of work. Didn't look bad untill you looked under. a05fa2fe5bafc652e6a9d2bee9a0a6d8.jpgbfa179b631e35e7d253bea44967b3727.jpgbd561bd8a85b73643eb9e27b171abe96.jpgbce28168880933b4a48b132e3531accc.jpg

So on most of these trucks you would need almost $25k to get it totaled.

Like this guy on another forum whole side messed up and airbags deployed. NOT TOTALED. c8d7f126c5c20dfd29240644709caae0.jpg1ee6e5b8563dcf104518ad63c6877fcf.jpgc874681167e1bec57fdc2306b0d4c588.jpg
