Do you notice and ride difference when not towing with this kit, at the 5-10min psi? I have a new kit sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. I have the 3" rear blocks and bilstein rears as well.

Not at all, you can squeeze then when that low. Do you have the same exact kit? Are you installing a compressor? If not, take the bolts out of your rear license plate and run your valves through the holes then nut back on the plate. looks clean and easy to get to.

Yes it the same kit. No compressor. Only tow a couple times a month at most so don't see the need to spend the extra $ on it.

Did you consider a rear block guys? For the amount of times I tow, the extra 1" was enough and doesn't kill the look.

I did, but I'm glad I went with the airlift, feels a bit more stable when towing. I also am not a huge fan of the rake.

Did it stay at stock height when you swapped? I am wanting to get rid of these rancho shocks and go with something better....I have a level up front with nothing in the back and would hope that it stays pretty close and keeps me level.

It stayed the same in the rear they say they are for trucks with stock to 1" lift

Just added the 5100's all the way around. Front is at max setting and I added a Motofab 1" block in the rear. I have to say that I am ok with the front ride but the ass end of the truck seems to bounce or "skitter" over bumps. It did this with the Rancho's as well. I was hoping that replacing with the 5100's would stop this. I torqued all the nuts on the U bolts to 60 lbs and verified the shocks were mounted correctly, (boots down) and functional. With some weight in the back, it rides fine. I understand its a truck and will ride like one but I am disappointed in what I expected of the upgrade. My father and brother both have Tundra's and man do they ride great. Its a nice solid bump and then done. Not a skitter like my Sierra. Has anyone else noticed this and have recommendations? Or am I expecting too much?

i was told the boots go up and that's the way i mounted them, the truck handles and rides much better than with the Ranchos

I also made the switch a few months ago. Front's maxed and added a 2" (1"over stock") block in the rear. I'll echo what everyone says, the truck drives much better but there are some conditions where the 5100's are less forgiving. I carry a full tool box, back rack, ladder rack, and misc stuff in the bed and I think the weight definitely helps my ride. The few trips I've taken everything off/rode unweighted, I'm not nearly as impressed with the ride.

I replaced my fronts about 6k miles ago. I am starting to get a little clunk going over bumps on the drivers side. Has anyone else had this problem? I torqued everything to spec at install and rechecked it last night. It feels like it is the stabilizer link. But I can't figure it out.

To clarify, the rear 5100s can be used at stock height, or stock +1"?

 

If stock height, would this require an alignment due to slight length difference from stock shock to 5100?

If everything is torqued, I would also suspect the link. Maybe remove it and check for play.

Yes they can.

 

No you wouldn't need one since you are not changing the angle. If you added a block, (even +1") you would need an alignment. Somehow that changes the front angles enough to require one. Or so I am told from the guy that aligned mine.

    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death. 
    • In the 80's 90's I'd run Honda's 7,500 miles between changes using Red Line HP 5W20 and do it for hundreds of thousands of miles with issues. Back in the day it was an SAE 20 with the HTHS of a SAE 30 and SN add load. It was also very polar. Oxidation VOA was over 120. Besides those motors were SPFI and lean burn tech. I could have likely run it longer but never did.    We had a Toyota bought new I ran on Pennzoil's latest and greatest synthetic of the day with "Penthane". A made up word for a very low dose of PAO. Tried 7,500 mile OCI's in that Group III/VI chemistry and the rings tapped out at 90K. Rocker box wasn't as bad as the one Punch put up but it wasn't good either. Also a SPFI motor.    I'm around 3,750 across the board on these GDI monsters and the oil it tapped out by then usually on TBN/TAN crossover and color. Red Line HP Euro.    The AMSOIL SS brochures tell you to follow the OEM values for the service class but that it can be run up to 25K if monitored. I can't imagine what motor could go that distance and not tap out. I've never owned one.    Yes, I know. Lot's of people do. I'm just not going to be one of them. 
    • I knew a guy in the early 80's that bought a new Monte Carlo and ran it a 100,000 miles without ever changing the filter or the oil. Just kept adding. It looked like that inside.     
    • Good evening. I was lucky enough to get passed down to me a 2007 GMC LBZ that was my great uncle's. While the underside and rockers are more or less gone I feel like with time I can restore it to working order since it only has 110,000 miles and he put nearly every option he could get without getting the new body style since he did not trust DEF. So far I have done everything I can think of but when I put the key into the ignition nothing happens. I put 2 brand new batteries in it. Cleaned the terminals. Check all the fuses and relays and they all pass with my multimeter. I know I'm missing something that I just cant think of. The only odd thing is the OBD2 port works which makes me think its not the mega fuse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 
    • Looks nice. I still have my 2000, 1500. Bought a 2025, 1500 for retirement. Feels solid. These trucks have a bad rap on the internet. My brother has a `24 1500, 5.3 with 52,000 miles. No problems at all. Mine hasn`t either but mine`s only at 12,700 miles. Have seen some of these things with 100,000 miles with no problems.
