Anyone on here denied warranty due to programmer?

My lift and 35in tires are going on next week and I need to fix the speedometer. I was going to buy a Diablo Intune to correct the speedo, turn off DOD and add their premium fuel tune but what I been reading on this forum and other sites worries me about loosing my warranty. Another option was just getting a Speedo calibration only tuner but that also leaves a record of the ECU being changed. I know dealers do not change the Speedo so do we really have 0 options for trucks running larger tires? If I do not do any performance mods and just change the speedo GM can void the warranty if the engine or tranny go bad down the road.

Bro you're voiding some warranty with the lift and tires....

What he said. You have a ball joint fail or CV fail and they will see the lift, suspension and drivetrain are grounds for warranty rejection right then and there for those parts of course. If you had a radio problem, that would be fine because the lift didn't break your radio.

This is why i bought a truck lifted from the factory and did a better lift myself...lol

In all seriousness, it will depend heavily on the dealer that you go to and what the warranty item is. If your engine blows and you cant get the tune out they may very well blame it on that but they will have to prove that the programmer caused the damage. For example, lets say you run a performance tune and you are running 93 without an additional intake yielding a rich fuel situation they can try to attribute that to the failure. However if a crank explodes due to a manufacture defect you will be able to fight it.

If you really just want to adjust the speedo than I would pay a shop to have it done, it will cost less than a good tuner with custom tunes for sure but for me I wouldn't even consider having a vehicle like this without a good tuner, CAI and exhaust.

I know all the suspension related items will not be covered under warranty. I just heard stories of people being denied warranty because they had a tune on it.

You really don't need to tune the speedo.. Just have to have the speed difference in the back of your mind. I would imagine at say 60 mph, 35's would put you at about 64. Don't know that for sure but it has to be close.

Your best bet would be to call your service rep. If he or she's cool with it, and will vouch for you then have at it.

Like this guy says... All about the dealer. After talking to a few different dealers, I was no longer afraid to modify my truck

In my opinion, you are playing with fire by modifying a truck which is protected by a warranty. If you really want the lift, just be prepared for a hard-to-win fight if something goes wrong.

Can anyone tell me what they think is the best tuner/chip for a 2014 5.3 for hp and shifting improvement?

I don't think you should have an issue with warranty if you tune it. I haven't seen anyone denied service yet and I have mine tuned as well with a Diablo Intune I-1000

If a dealer voids your warranty, it's not like it's a blanket denial from all dealers. Just go find a better dealer that is willing to still help you. My dealer back at home hates looking at my truck cause it's got a level kit, exhaust, and air intake. Can't wait till this summer when I go to get my last oil change under 20K warranty. They tried to deny me the same service when I had the 3 above mods, the list has grown MUCH longer now [emoji23]

Dealer I have here by me at school, love them, they don't deny me anything except they won't install a lift for me. But recommended a shop that could do it and agreed to still honor warranty on any GM parts

I believe if a dealer denies a warranty claim, your VIN gets flagged in the GM database and this will screw you if you go to any

other GM dealer for service.

I would love to get a tune for my 6.2L to fix the torque management/throttle response issues but won't attempt it until the powertrain warranty expires.

please dont spread things if you do not know them to be true. to date, no one has been denied a warrantly claim because of a tuner. and no one has been denied a warranty claim because of a "flagged" VIN.

There is no such thing as a "lifted truck" from the factory. Your dealer may have lifted the truck before you bought it, but you are still under the same issue. If you have any suspension issues or possible any drivetrain issues you could be denied GM warranty coverage due to your lift.

This isn't my first rodeo, I know how it works, my warranty has an addendum to cover the components that fail due to the suspension lift that was sold to my as a factory add on package. The dealer warranties the parts and all components on the truck because they had the work done, not me.

That being said I really don't care because anything that breaks I will just build stronger instead of replacing with factory weak parts that would go during a warranty anyways.

I can second the speedo. I have. 7,5" RC suspension lift with 35" treads.nwith my gps going, my speedo is 5 MPH slower. I also put the lift on myself so therefore my suspension will not be covered. I personally love a lifted truck and I have no regrets. That's just me.
