The grommet around the stock antenna is rubber and stretchy. I was able to monut the 3' firestik on a spring without modifying it

I installed my CB antenna in the stock antenna location. SWR is great! Removed the ashtray and installed the radio directly to it. Lots of radio traffic around here.

I used the same spot on the Tahoe (radio ant. in rear glass ) so where is your radio ant. now ????

I left it attached to the wire and layed it flat under the cowl.

What grommet did you run your antenna cable through? Where is it on the inside?

I have my antenna mounted (Thurs morning), took pictures yesterday morning after I got home from work, CB/scanner are mounted and power ran (not connected, yet), and now it's just a matter of finding a way into the cab and routing the antenna cable to my CB and then routing a antenna cable from my stereo to the scanner.

Still trying to find a way to route the cable into the cab from the bed.

look under cab rear , there are some rubber plugs in the floor under carpet . just run your cable there .

I ran my power wires thru the firewall on the driver's side. There is a big rubber grommet with a wire bundle running thru it next to the steering column. I just poked another hole in it and stuck the wires through. I haven't mounted an antenna yet. But, I'm going to drill a hole in the middle of the roof. That is where they work the best and it won't hurt the resale in the least if you plug it with the proper rubber plug. They won't even look twice at it and probably won't notice it to begin with. Besides, I'll probably keep it for 10 -15 years anyway.

Yup. I have the fender mounted antenna bracket as well for my ham radio antenna. Works great. I'm done with roof mounted antennas.

It only took one time with a magnetic roof mount. Maybe I had the wrong type of antenna on it though. I was completely new to CBs so I had a 3' fiberglass whip antenna like an 18 wheeler and it just kept flying off the roof at interstate speeds. So I don't know if the magnet wasn't strong enough or if I needed to at least add a spring. After that I just mounted an antenna to my toolbox. All that I did on my '98. I don't think I'm even going to add one to my '14. If I get an older Chevy to play in I'll put one of mine in that one, but not the '14.

I have a Wilson 5000 drilled through the roof and a General hp40w radio...

I have had a radio in every truck I've owned...traveled cross country for a good many years. Not a whole lot of traffic on there now...between the governed trucks, the high speed limits, and the newer truck driver, they just don't use them as much.

I tried out trucking and all I ever heard was gossip. You think a beauty parlor full of women was bad, just listen to the CB at night. I normally kept mine off. The only reason I kept one in my '98 was in case there was traffic backed up I would ask what's going on. I don't think anybody ever answered me. Also I laugh when some people are surprised that they don't use CB lingo or handles anymore.

Sometimes you'd get a good conversation going, but the new generation of truck drivers would rather play with noise toys and be stupid than have a conversation. I passed a good many hours just having a good conversation, makes the time fly.

I noted the decreased use when diesel spiked in 2008...almost all trucks got governed to save fuel and there was no need to listen to the CB for bear reports since your truck wouldn't break the speed limit unless it was pushed off a cliff.

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
