Do you use one of GM's Apps to connect with your truck? If so, you should know that at the upcoming 2016 Consumer Electronics Show GM will announce a new App that will merge myChevrolet and OnStar RemoteLink. The idea is that the new app will be more customizable by users. GM says the new system will offer "mobile access to roadside assistance, parking reminders, owner’s manual content, vehicle diagnostics, Wi-Fi® hotspot management and key fob commands such as remote start and door unlock." Paul Edwards, vice president, Chevrolet marketing expanded on that, saying, “The myChevrolet app will be the most comprehensive vehicle app available – and will support the ownership experience over the life of the vehicle. By integrating OnStar RemoteLink features into the myChevrolet app, we’re creating a one-stop-app for owners to manage their vehicle with one user profile and unified log-in.”

Readers of this site may remember that we attended a seminar by OnStar earlier this year. John McFarland, Director, Connected Customer Experience OnStar Division laid out for the GM-Trucks team how the group would dramatically expand the proactive alerts GM vehicles will send to drivers. Connected vehicles are here now and GM is a leader in this regard, perhaps number two to Tesla in the industry.

Do you use an App now to connect with your vehicle? If so, tell us what you most commonly do.

Any mention as to which one becomes the main base going forward? Is it My Chevrolet that becomes the platform (with My GMC, My Buick and My Cadillac respectively covering each brand) or do the My (insert brand here) apps get merged to the OnStar app?

EDIT: Never mind...I re-read what you wrote lol..."GM will announce a new App that will merge myChevrolet and OnStar RemoteLink. "

I am currently using the OnStar app on my 14 Sierra 1500.

Have been using it for the past 2 yrs. with no issues. Just don't try and start the truck using the app when the keys are in the ignition. It won't start and locks all the doors! Good thing the unlock on the app worked.! LOL We do have a tendency to learn things the hard way.

If this new app has any improvements I would like to see the 10 min. limit increased and/or up the number of starts from 2 per ignition cycle.

In Canada 10 mins. just doesn't cut it in the winter! Most after market starters give at least 20 mins.

I hope GM did their homework and got some user input before implementing the "NEW & IMPROVED" app.
