When should I do first oil change on new truck?

I am approaching 1000 miles on my new 2016 5.3 and wondering when I should complete the first oil change. Planning on using synthetic.

Thanks for all replies.

I did all driveline and powertrain fluids at 750 miles, most people just wait until their first oil change and do everything based on the owners manual

Why do all the fluids? I waited until 7500 to do the oil change, but should I consider changing all other fluids too?

I did my oil change at 1000. After that I'll let the DS do the first 4 free ones for me. Wanted to get all the break in gunk out as soon as possible so it didn't cause any unneeded wear

It's mainly personal preference. I've done a lot of transmission swaps, rear end swaps, etc. If you get a rear end rebuilt they recommend draining and refilling after 500 miles. Transmission and tcase 2000 miles (at least that's what they wanted to see to keep my warranty from being voided, replace tranny filter as well). I just did mine all at the same time to avoid the hassle

Will the dealership do the oil change before the monitor says so? Is like to get the break in oil out as I'm at 1700 miles. I can do it myself but when is free at the dealership it's silly to spend the money to do so. I'll be going full synthetic too.

No reason to change fluids before required intervals. GM doesn't use break in oil anymore and tolerances are so tight with modern motors that all those old school practices are not needed. I'm not telling you not to do it, but there's no reason.

Some will...some won't...my dealer said 4 free Dexos synthetic blend oil changes with filters within the first 24 months or 24,000 miles...use them whenever I wanted...not tied to OLM. I got it changed every 6 months regardless of anything else since my use is low mileage. Now that I am passed 24 months, I used Mobil 1 full synthetic and will change it annually.

Many dealer and personal variations on this topic...I suggest contacting you dealer and decide what you will do for yourself...

By the way...there is an entire thread in this topic...

Ever see how dirty that oil is before 1K miles? It's a good time to add a magnetic drain plug too early on

I changed my at 1,500 since I had four free oil changes and would use the all with two years.
