Has anyone tried taking their 2015 to the dealer and have them do the update?

This is for 2016's and newer only. 2015's and older do not have the required hardware to do this. You have to purchase the required hardware aftermarket from other suppliers (GM-Navigation.com, or MVI here on the forums) and then it will be flashed with the proper software then you can have your Android Auto. Expect to pay around 1200.00 or so to do this.

Can't be done to a 2015.

(although the aftermarket has solutions available)

I was just wondering, if you buy a later production (may-june) 2016 is the AA update already installed or do no '16 cars/trucks have it from the factory?

Yes- On the intro date this spring, dealers were required to update existing inventory with Android Auto.

I don't know why non USA sales wouldn't have it too unless the dealer doesn't have the knowledge to install the update on models shipped before the update. Or maybe a language conversion isn't available.

I have to admit that I was pretty excited for AA. But I had my factory nav input, video in motion, texting unlocked. These features make the Intellink much more useful than AA.

Plus I can still change the music on the fly while my phone is unlocked, which isn't possible with AA.

The only time I use AA is for Google Maps Traffic on long drives. I really don't like that it locks my phone out in Car Mode.

Intellink's voice recognition is phenomenal, and responds faster than AA.

Just my opinion. AA has a long way to go.

That's interesting, I've found the phone voice recognition to be faster and more reliable than the factory, plus you have more options on what it can do. Are you short or long pressing the voice button?

What do you mean by change music on the fly? I use a combination of AA and factory just depending on what I'm doing and the mood I'm in I guess. It does suck that it locks the phone out but I guess that's pretty much the point to keep you off of it.

Definitely not trying to be confrontational, just curious what is and isn't working for other people. I felt dumb the other day on an trip when I learned that the right side tuning knob allows you to control zoom on Google Maps, surprised I hadn't figured that out yet lol.

Short for Intellink and long for AA. But the long presses work the same with or without AA via Bluetooth. So I can still use it to voice text, or ask the weather, or anything G Search related. I do believe that voice features will be better after AA 2.0 later this year. They are integrating "ok, Google" always on feature for you phone when connected to AA. That will be nicer. no buttons, just say the hot word and go.

When connected to AA, my S5 locks out. I use Amazon Music, and my choices for selecting new stations is limited to only previous stations. My off line music is limited to songs I've downloaded to my SD card.

Over Bluetooth, my phone is not locked, so if I need to look up new station or select a off line song form the library (not downloaded) I can do that.

I did not know that about maps. Ive been pinch zooming. nice.

Thanks for mentioning the map zoom knob feature, I didn't know about that either!

Not sure how other phones would handle this but on my Nexus with the AA lock screen on, if I swipe up from the bottom the phone navigation buttons show up. If you pick the app switcher button you can jump to any of your recent apps. Once you're in another app the home button will take you to your home screen.

Also on the Nexus phones you can double tap the power button to go straight to your camera app, which also bypasses the AA lock screen. There's a setting to enable the double tap power for camera, I think it is defaulted to be enabled.

AA is reportedly adding wifi capability soon and many GM products have Wifi. So that may change a lot of how the system works. IMO, the factory Nav is better than most but still way behind Gmaps. And as apps are added to AA it will start to be a "living" system unlike the factory that only gets map updates. And apps will get better as they mature...right now the Amazon app fo AA is worthless but will get better.

Sorry to open an old post.

Anyone had to bring it back to get the update done? Went to have an oil change and recall done today and was told they could update the android auto too. Was only there an hour total and dont think they did it right. The settings still only show apple carplay as an option. Yes, i do have AA on my phone, truck was bought March 2016 so its not one of the batches that did not come with the option to have it.

Mine needs to go in for a third time they still don't have it working right. I've seen the update procedure and it's stupid complex in my opinion.

Make sure to use a USB cable as well. if you have the AA app on the phone then you just plug in the USB cable and open the app.

Sounds like they didn't do it.
