Headlight Illumination Issues

Is the entire harness easy to mount and run inside the engine compartment? I see at least on one side, the original wiring harness plugs into this new one.....does it do that on each side?

Yes it's the same on both sides, it is a very well put together harness. I layed it out a few different ways as I have dual batteries and wanted the most factory looking route... I managed to use most of the opening spaces in the bezel pocket for the ballast and other stuff.. 3M automotive trim double face tape helped keep things in place..

By far the best $$ I've spent on my truck so far..

I went with the 5500k...

TRS rep said, "We dont recommend using 50W ballasts without a full relay wire harness, or in a smaller headlight/fog light housing."

 

Isn't the full relay harness included in the morimoto elite kit?

Look up the morimoto 55w kit...

It's a full harness kit with the relays....

The 35w was good from the feedback I got from others that bought it, the only issue was it was backordered like crazy...

I bit the bullet and just went with the 55w kit...

BTW they are both full harness kits...

I went with the Morimoto Elite 35w, 4500k kit. Arrives in a few hours. I will post before and after pictures and videos from my dashcam.

 

I chose 35w over 50w because 90% of my driving is with lots of oncoming traffic and rolling hills. Don't want to blind anyone. Also wanted longetivity. Anything better than current will make me happy.

 

I also chose 4500k over 5500k because we have lots of snow here in MN and the 4500k is supposed to be warmer and better for those conditions. Will share results soon!

Cool! Post some pics if you can. It took me about 4 hours, but I'm real picky about where everything went. You can't see any non-stock components except for the two wires coming from the dust covers.

 

You'll love the results.

Installation was a breeze. I used 3M double sided tape to mount everything.

 

I am definitely happy with the results. It is a nice improvement! They aren't flamethrowers like the pictures I've seen of the 50W, but the improvement over stock makes it worth while.

Where did you connect the 2 negative ground wires? It says negative battery on the cable but I mounted one on the frame/ground and the other on the battery negative. I'd like to put both on frame ground if that's fine.

Morimoto Elite 35W 4500K

I did an upgrade on my Hayabusa a few years ago and loved it. I went with the 5500 but it was a bit to much in traffic. I bought a new left over 2014 GMC in January of this year. They did the so called upgrade to the lights but they are still crap. I see better with the lights on low beam with the fog lamps on then on high beam. I did notice the lens gets hot now. Do you have that issue? I want to do this upgrade just have't got around to it. I still think GMC should do something about it. I really don't feel safe driving at night. Are the thumbnail pics on low beam? Thanks for the info.

Yeah that dealer 'fix' did not make any significant improvement.

 

The first picture has low beam with dealer fix on top, then low beam with HID before I re-aimed them on bottom.

 

The 2nd picture is low beam on both.

 

I have no over heating issues with the 35w kit. Also no glare that would affect other traffic. Just solid excellent lighting at night. That's why I recommend the 35w over the 50w.

 

Also the brights actually make a difference now. Once you install the kit and aim them down a little, I can actually see way down the road. Very helpful here in deer country.

 

In the after video I switch back and forth between low and high, but my camera doesn't really capture what the brights really look like.

Can you post a link for the kit you got? I just want to make sure I get the right ones. I am looking to buy as soon as I can. Thanks in advance for all the info.
