A few days ago I was stop because of heavy traffic, when I got rear ended buy a guy playing with his phone...

I hope all my Silverado needs is a new bumper... Tailgate works good. I will take to a body shop soon.

Damn people on their cell phones. Was next to a guy on the left lane looking down for at least 2-3 miles oblivious going under the speed limit.

Glad everyone is ok. Better give that hitch a once over also. Looks as that thing took the brunt of the hit.

What, no trailer hitch in the receiver???? Photo above has it right.

The inattentive jacka$$ who rear ends me will need a new radiator and A/C condenser as their price to pay for putting scratches on my bumper.

Using a 5 or 6 inch drop down receiver that is flipped upside down is the answer. Had that happen to my 01, he ended up with my rear wheels on the front of his fenders. Only damage my truck had was it broke the tab off of the 7 pin cover.

No injuries is a good thing.

Cell phones are a problem.

Wife was rear ended while stopped at a red light by a teenager doing 45 mph., the posted speed limit. Using a phone we think. Never was disclosed by his insurance company why he hit her. Her seat collapsed backwards and the metal frame in the head rest caused a gash in the back of her head that took 30 stitches to close. Bruised head, torso, arms, knees and a mild concussion.

Totaled our vehicle.

The worst was severe whip lash of the neck that she will deal with for the rest of her life. All this for a non emergency cell phone usage. :happysad:

One of the best reasons to drive a truck IMO. Protecting yourself from all the idiots out there.

Playing devils advocate, trucks and SUVs are also inherently dangerous than say civics or focus because of their size and maneuverability and the ability to avoid certain collisions. A classmate of mine did some research for a project and it was pretty interesting.

That said, my wife and I own a truck and suv.

My wife was rear ended (that's what she said) by someone in a Chysler 300 going 5-10 mph with the Bentley style grill. The grill indented the paint on her bumper on her week old Equinox. $2500 in repairs with OEM parts. I assume they had to replace more than just the bumper based on the collision and all these "crumple zone" parts...

Yup, Newton's law of physics holds true. The bigger an object, the more energy it exerts on another. Your point brings up why we are seeing more nanny devices added to vehicles. Because vehicles are built lighter to meet EPA standards, they also tend to receive more damage during a minor fender bender due to the increased plastics and aluminum. I think many people erroneously believe that a car or truck is less safe when the body panels crumple or break away during an accident when really you want the force of the accident to be channeled somewhere other than to the occupants and cab of the vehicle. The energy has to go somewhere. Ever wonder why there is so much damage during brush ups and wrecks in NASCAR., yet the chassis around the driver remains intact.

I see a lot of people in nice new higher end cars with their phones up to their ears while driving. Surely most if not all vehicle built since 2010 have blutooth handsfree, yet i still so many people who don't use it. Texting is even worse.
