Seat belt recall?

As you work for a dealer. Is there anything the dealers can do about this and escalade it to GM as not acceptable?? Customers should be satisfied and this is not going to do that.

We are not a dealer, we are a customer. We have a fleet contract with GM

Ok guys with the recall that needs to be done. I traded my 14 in on a 16 today. The new truck looks exactly like the old truck where the seat bet latch comes through the trim. I am at a loss as to why they would be cutting the older trucks but have not changed it on the newer ones if that is an issue.

I had a funny feeling that the trim would be the same. I am sure the inside parts may be different. That just shows what I mentioned about the trim having no effect to the problem. The trim should have been left along and this is the only complaint about this recall.

When this recall first came out I read that dealers were to put new parts on any trucks in stock but repair any customer trucks. So your 16 may have had a whole new assembly where our trucks will get cut up.

What years does the recall include? If it was 14-16 than that is a crap load of trucks.

It is only 14-15 trucks. They must have fixed something in 16, not sure why the grommet is fine in 16 but not in 14-15. 895,232 trucks according to this.

because the flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the vehicle can fatigue and separate over time as a result of the driver repeatedly bending the cable when entering the seat.

....and just what do they mean by this.

I don't come anywhere close to touching let alone bending anything involving the seat belt when I get in the seat. Personally,I'm just letting this recall go by the wayside.

My onstar report shows for customer vehicles they install bracket on tensioner and enlarge side shield opening. Unsold new trucks dealers replace the retractor assembly. Looks like they modify sold trucks existing parts but install a new part on new trucks. When i take mine in I am asking for the new assembly and will refuse the modifying of the seat.

My belief is they are cutting the trim to get the bracket in there, which is faster and thus cheaper than pulling out the seat or removing a bunch of seat trim to do it.

I suspect GM is hoping dealers would trim it cleanly enough for customers not to get pissed about the shortcut.

Keep in mind that like all other recalls this only affects certain VINs. My late-build 2015 Silverado is not affected ...

Wish I'd seen this thread before taking mine in. As mentioned, I don't blame the techs, but what a horribly designed repair. Looks like a drunken bubba half assed a fix at 2a.m. in his driveway. Professional grade indeed.

Well, I had the set belt recall done a couple of days ago before I saw this thread. Because I hadn't noticed anything screwed up when I looked at it afterwards I went out to the truck for a closer inspection.

Guess I was one of the lucky ones because my dealer didn't cut anything to fit the new bracket in place. What they did was, in the existing slits, bend the outside flap down against the bracket so it can no longer be seen and bent the inside flap up along side the bracket on the inside. It' fits snugly but no cuts. It looks fine to me, although if I knew ahead of time that my dealer was going to cut the hole for the bracket and butcher the truck like some of the pictures posted I probably wouldn't have had it done. So, if you're in doubt about getting this done you might want to check with your dealer to see how they actually do it. Doesn't look to me that my dealer made any changes to the bracket hole at all and it seems fine.

I took a couple of pictures of the install but couldn't remember how to post them so if someone can guide me through the process I'll try again.
