I don't know if this was posted in here yet, but for those with OEM tow mirrors that want the smoked lense, there are a few places that sell the replacement lenses or you can buy the whole led replacement smoked from here.

I am debating on getting the 1A mirrors and selling my DQS mirrors as it doesn't have the puddle light and I can just repin the 1A mirrors without the jumper harness.

I wanna share my experience with Phil here. Just yesterday I met up with Phil at his place to upgrade my mirrors from DL8 to DL3. Let me say this first, wow! Phil really knows what he's doing and makes it look so easy. I think changing the mirrors took us 45 minutes to an hour to do for both sides. So far Ive been loving them and couldn't ask for any better version of tech support if something goes wrong.

Just a side note, we also added a headlight harness with resistors and added the wiring for the auto-dim rearview mirror. All in all maybe 2-2.5 hours. Absolutely amazing what Phil has been able to make these trucks do when GM tells us no.

Thanks Phil!!

Hey buddy i have a 2017 gmc sierra slt with DL3/A45. I want to upgrade to DQS power folding towing mirrors. So i can see that you did this on your truck, did phil had to modify the harnesses

23342727 and 23342716 that you bought? Where did you find harnesses and mirrors? Thanks i would really appreciate the help

GM supports this upgrade if you want to go that route. Some folks here want to perform this upgrade themselves and save some $ in doing so. I recommend going the dealer route only in the event that a BCM and/or Memory Module calibration is needed. In the handful of people that decided to this themselves, they bought my harness and didn't need any calibrations.

DQS Mirrors are the mirrors you'll want. For harnesses, if you have Seat Memory (A45), you'll want the following (Referencing the upgrade retrofit chart)

Part # 23171564

Replaced By Part # 23342727

Part # 23171567

Replaced By Part # 23342716

Hope this helps.

Im looking to upgrade to the DQS power folding mirrors, can i use those parts you provided and still keep all feautures i currently got on mirrors? I saw that you helped user DLW66 with his harness and sent him one custom you made, do you think i need to do the same? Thanks for you help phil.

Absolutely. Sorry for the delay in response. Was in the middle of a harness build. But yes, I can make build the the same set that will be 100% Plug and Play for your truck, year and trim.

All you need is to source the DQS Mirrors.

PM for more info.

Thanks!

I am working on this myself right now. So far I have them hardwired in, but plan to go the stock route as soon as I source some door harnesses. GM makes it tough to find the right part numbers for these harnesses. So far this is where I am...

Amazing information from this post. Thanks so much Phil. I cannot say enough about your character and willingness to help practically any hour of the day. Your DIY kit & instructions were spot on and you can't tell it wasn't from the factory! Thanks again for helping me get my dad's gift working correctly. I'll be hitting you up for a wiring kit for my truck soon!

I have a 16 Z71 crew cab 1500 lt with the standard style mirrors. Dl8 I believe they are. My dad has a 2016 sierra 2500 with the dl3 mirrors (again I believe). He wants the mirrors I have and I want the ones off his. Is that a plug and play swap? Like if I take his mirrors and harnesses and he takes mine?

It will be PnP for him but he’ll lost...turn Signal, Auto Dim, Power Fold. Heat and power adjust will work fine. He’ll need to keep his stock harness in.

For you, you’ll either need swap your door harness with my PnP set or modify your stock harness with my DIY Kit.

Not sure why I am unable to reply to your for sale post but I am interested in purchasing the set of DL3 and PnP harnesses you posted for sale in the marketplace.

Im sure this has been answered but I cant find it in the search and just want confirmation I understood the write up at the beginning before I start buying stuff.

I have a 2017 Sierra 1500 base model elevation. My mirrors are power adjust only (Im in Houston so I doubt they have heat) so I do not think I have an official upgrade option. All I want is to replace them with the black smoked lense style tow mirrors and retain my power adjust and add turn signals to them both (puddle light would be a bonus if possible). Do I just need a custom harness or is mine too basic to upgrade? If possible to upgrade, do I have to buy the oem tow mirrors or is there a good aftermarket set that will provide the functionality I want at a more reasonable price? Any insight is appreciated.

    • Progress... sort of.   Intake is disassembled, spider is out, fuel lines removed. Used a torch on the stripped screw with the lower intake off, much easier when I've got the intake sitting on my workbench, I made it talk. Walked right out with a pair of vice grips once it was nice and toasty hot.   New parts are piling up on my service cart waiting to be installed. Distributor, temperature sensor, new gaskets, fuel line kit, themostat, water neck.   My new pickle is I don't want to spend $600 on a replacement spider. I'm not sure IT is bad. I'm probably splitting hairs. Or it's $300 to send mine away and another 3 weeks of the truck just sitting. I have half a mind to assemble everything with the old spider to see if I can get away with just replacing the fuel pressure regulator to be safe. The obvious issue was the gushing high pressure fuel line which will be replaced. Getting to the spider really isn't that hard, and now I know what I'm doing , swapping it would be a breeze should it absolutely need one. Stupid, or smart?   The part that gives me pause is replacing the distributor. Well, it's already out. And I didn't mark it, whoopsie! Engine was at TDC when I removed it, I know that, so upon correct reinstall the metal tip on the rotor should point to the TDC mark on the distributor because that's where it was pointing on the old distributor. Worst case I'm a tooth off and have to re-stab it.   But then, what? I assume the truck will start. It doesn't appear the timing can be set. Here's the problem: These distributors can't be rotated but a degree or two, by design. What I read is Cam ****** needs to be -2 to +2 degrees, ideally at 0 (and checked/set above 1000 rpm). There should be enough wiggle to get that properly set, but checking the reported value is another potential issue. My Actron 9185 scanner says it supports enhanced GM PIDs and Cam ****** is one of them but it's unclear that I'll be able to correctly see it over OBD 1.5. I can see why people end up junking these things with life left in them. They're an absolute nightmare with tweener-year diagnostics/electronics and unobtanium parts.   Fingers crossed it starts and idles nicely. There can be hope, right? I'ma buy a lottery ticket the same day just in case.   Next steps..DO IT. I have not installed an intake before so I've been reading and watching a lot. Some say NO RTV except on china walls, some say DO RTV on water ports but not fuel/air intake. 1/4 or 3/8 bead on China walls? I think my strategy will be, obviously, RTV china walls with overlap on the gasket corners. Chapstick-style RTV the water ports. Leave intake ports dry. The only set of intake gaskets I could find locally are Edelbrock performance gaskets (uh...for an asthmatic 190hp V6? LOL) so we'll see how they do.   #NoToolLeftBehind. It took an hour, but my recovery mission for my deep 10mm socket was successful. It had rolled down the bellhousing and wedged itself between what I think are the fuel lines? I couldn't see it at all, but with a junk antenna I had laying around, I blindly went poking/sweeping for it, heard it clink, raised the truck, and caught a sliver glimpse of chrome with a flashlight way up there in Narnia. I had pushed it farther along the lines holding it captive, but within access of severely improvised tools, poking and cursing at it to finally knock it free to where I could get a fingertip on it to bring it home.    Not much to see.

    • It wouldn’t have happened if the government hadn’t mandated outrageous fuel mileage standards. It does very little for the consumer. It adds cost. Back during Covid there was a chip shortage. They gave a rebate for your truck if it didn’t have the chip to turn on cylinder deactivation. It was 50$ because at best you may see 1/2 a mile increase per gallon. Splitting hairs each fuel mileage trick wasn’t mandated. The government doesn’t do the engineering work and say use this until it’s already in use and they like it. The fuel mileage was mandated. And those add ons the results. There’s a mandate and they are the results.
