Speedometer reads "100" after dash light upgrade to LEDS

Now that I finally got all my dash lights working with Blue Leds, I noticed my speedometer has stayed on "100"'. I have not test driven it yet to check for shifting problems.

Question: Do you think removing the negative battery connection and re attaching to check for the proper lighting of each LED (I had to do this about 6 times, my bad, newbie here) would have damaged the stepper motor on the speedometer?

Would a reset (removing the negative connection) reset the dial? OR

Should I removed the cluster assembly again and use gravity to swing it the other way? Then re-install.

Would LEDS interfere with the cluster?

Thanks for any help with this.

The Blue lights are nice but I purchased them on Amazon for around $12 and the base contacts were about 30 degrees off from the OEM twist bases. Took me awhile to solve the issue.

None of it should affect the speedometer motor. Check to see if you didn't pinch a wire re-installing it. Did you take it for a ride?

Not yet, I will try to see if it affects the shifting on the trans.

As for the pinched wire, the cluster "plugs into a socket" in back of the dash assembly."

Thanks for your reply. I will try it tomorrow to try to isolate the problem.

I know the cluster plugs into the back but it doesn't stop a wire from dangling and getting caught behind and when you pull those 4 screws tight you can easily squeeze a wire. Did you at least start the engine?

if you noticed the connect of the dash cluster itself is a cheesy ribbon to the truck. Be sure it is not shifted off some weird angle.. and dust free.

LED does set a direction, and the dash shares common ground.

I was expecting some of the weirdness you got, but never got it.

My only problem was ABS light had to stay the old incandescent (as my abs works awesome) to keep the light off.

other than that, it is hit or miss on the sensitive stuff.

Could wait for a bleed down, after checking for bad connects. It is that sensitive.

Thanks Coby,

I test drove it today. Just for good measure, I reset the ECM by pulling the negative battery wire. Then I reattached it and the truck ran very well. Shifted well. AND my speedometer received a signal and indicated proper speed after a few blocks of driving it.

Thanks for your help. Glad it was not a pinched wire or a sensor problem.

Thanks for the response Bary,

I will check my ABS to be sure it lights.

Do you mean on startup (system check?) I think all of my lights work on start up (system check) because the kit I bought had incandescent lights for those indicators I believe. On my truck they were the smaller twist bases.
