I'm 6,000 miles away from my warranty expiring in my 2016 Silverado. I haven't had issues with my condenser, but I want them to put in a new one and take care of as many potential issues as possible before my warranty goes out. Think they'll change it?

 

I wish you luck. I also have a 2016 with only 3,000 miles on it. I've brought my truck down 5 times so far to get the AC fixed. On the 3rd visit, they replaced the AC condenser with another faulty designed condenser (the redesigned one wasn't available yet). On my 5th visit, another AC component failed but I logged a GM ticket anyways asking them to replace the condenser with the re-designed one. They wouldn't do it. Even though I've brought my truck down 5 times now for the AC, showing proof that I have a lemon, they still wouldn't replace the condenser. I went off on the GM guy on the phone about it. I also gave my dealer a very poor service review for my 5th visit. The dealer claimed GM wouldn't let them replace the condenser while GM told me the dealer didn't want to replace the condenser. Basically each pointing the finger at the other.

Hopefully your ac is working great now?     I don't think I'd join one of these class suits over $1k. GM will settle for a fraction of the class costs and most of that will go to the slimey lawyer

Add me, 2016 Serria Denali 60k no ac, but I moved from Maryland to South Carolina and didnt have the time to get it fixed and we made a few trips now have 67k. I bought used at 53k, had the trans flus

does anyone have a good picture of the re-designed condenser? did those who have got the fix have a (about) 4 inch by 4 inch reflective patch in the top right corner of the condenser?

Picked mine up from the dealer yesterday. Here was the ticket cost charged against the warranty for the condenser.

 

Parts- 304.20

Tax 24.64

Labor 566.27

Misc 70.00 (this was 35 per day for the loaner)

Total 965.11

mines new too just not sure if it's the old design or new one. then the "patch" is a whole other level of confusion

Had mine changed today after my a/c started blowing warm on the drive home from work on Tuesday 38,300 miles and 2 years 11 months after I bought the truck--no extended warranty. :banghead: Dealer had condenser in stock and the service advisor said, "yeah we been changing a lot of them".

 

Also, my battery was dying, so I had that replaced too.

 

$1080 + tax to have the condenser changed (they gave me 10% off)

$175 to change the battery (again 10% off)

 

I had them do the #PIT5331 bracket also. They charged me the $6 for the part, but put it on for "free".

 

Was as pissed as all of y'all are about it, but I paid $13K less for my Sierra Z71 than I could have got a Tundra for, so I guess I'm money ahead (until the next big thing breaks).

I had my truck into have the negative power cable replaced - what a joke that was - and suddenly my AC is out? I looked on the invoice and they said I declined service for AC refrigerant leak? Yeah, I want to decline service for something that is covered? I just love adding extra trips to the dealership, right? Low and behold I had to get a new AC condenser.

AC went out driving home from Vegas which left for a pleasant drive through the desert. Looks like from this thread im just stuck with another bill on a $50k truck.

Interesting;  my ac went out back in June while towing my 6,000 lb TT from a campout down in Big Bend back to DFW.  Temp was 112 down there so guessing the extreme heat stressed the ac too much and caused it to pop a leak.  Had no issue with the dealer as my truck only had 32,000 miles at the time.  However, it sat on the dealer lot for 32 day waiting for a condenser as they were on national back order at the time.    But, I was provided a Silverado loaner to drive at no cost.  So, can't complain too much.  Anyway, finally got it back in july and works fine, yeaa ? !

Nope, it's a sealed system and has nothing to do with the external temperature.   The condenser is flawed and develops leaks over time....just a matter of time before it happens unless you have the newer ones that fixed the design flaw.   Some people get 60K miles out of it, some get 100K miles, I got 38K miles.  

 

My condenser was a 100% replacement and has the silver square area like shown up a few posts.  I know they didn't patch mine, so maybe the new design is to strengthen the corner?

Mine went at 2,089 miles (under a year old)

      I have a Retrax pro that I first had on my 2020 chevy and transferred it to my current GMC.  It stays in the garage most of the time, so hard for me to judge it's long term weather resistance.  It still works perfectly, been very durable.  It doesn't see oil patch usage, but it's not a mall queen.  It keeps most things mostly dry (small leaks) and the security of it is enough to slow someone down but not keep them out for long.  I would buy one again, it works for me.

      Thanks to the convenience of Amazon, I was able to get a few things done to the truck today.  I installed Carquest Premium oil and air filters with five quarts of Mobil1 High Mileage 10-30 along with a quart of Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 I already had.  The latch for the flip up center console lid was broken so I replaced it along with the power mirror switch.  I found my push retainer assortment this morning and reattached the plastic under the bumper and it was only held on with a few screws and retainers.  Then I programmed a new remote keyless entry fob so I can lock my dog in the truck when I take her out with me (I've got to keep the air going for her since it's been in the 100s).  Finally, I ordered some LED interior bulbs and replaced the reading lamps.  The front lights are working fine while one of the back lights only works intermittently and the other not at all.   While under the truck, I found the source of at least one of the noises: the sway bar links need replacing.  I ordered a set of Suspension Dudes links with Code Red bushings.  Never heard of them, but they're made in the USA and have decent reviews.  While making yet another Amazon order, I went ahead and added a set of front tow hooks.  I went with red, since that's the color of the sway bar link and bushings and it should look decent enough on a black and chrome truck.  Speaking of which, it doesn't bug me much, but the passenger side mirror has a chrome cap while the driver side doesn't, so eventually I'll make them match one way or another.  Oh, and I ordered a $20 TPMS reset tool.  No idea if it will do anything for my sensors but it was cheap and will work for the Ford Transit Connect as well.     For tradition's sake, I ordered a new oil change wrench.  I kept the Snap-On 9/16"x15mm GM wrench I bought when I was 18 in the 2006 GMC from the time I bought that truck until the truck was lost.  While I was tempted, there's no need to spend $80 for a new SO wrench, or even $50 with shipping for a used one on Ebay.  I just bought a Duratech 15mm extra-long ratcheting wrench to do the job as needed.  It works, and if I like that wrench enough, I'll buy the set.

      The recall is for exactly this issue - those drain holes combined with the limited environmental capability of the tailgate electronics card inside the tailgate were a problem. The “safety issue” was the potential for the tailgate to spontaneously open, but all kinds of tailgate misbehavior can occur from water contamination of that control card.    There is no real fix yet. The initial recall just disabled the tailgate. Later, when parts became available, they would replace bad parts with new parts of the same bad design. My dealer is going nuts because the few times I let them get their hands on my truck, my tailgate is off due to a slide-in camper installation. They really want to cut my tailgate wires, but I won’t give them the chance. I will let them get their dirty hands on it when a real fix (redesign) is available.  My tailgate, which works just fine with sealant plugging the drain holes, will remain safe in a dry storage crate until then.

      Yes your absolutely right, I been looking at the 4 inch BDS one and it acutely states you can use the stock 20’s just not the 17’s or 18’s, I also didn’t realize that with my 275/60r20 stock wheels I’m already running 33 inch diameter wheel setup lol so I can just run my stock wheels and tires atleast to start.

      I would expect that to be lift-kit dependent.  If the kit has interference issues w stock wheels, then the kit/manufacturer should indicate that somewhere.
