Strange vehicle theft

Are you 100% sure that they did not get inside your crib first and simply steal the spare keys? I would be wanting to put those spare keys in my hand like immediately and really be looking around my crib for other missing stuff.

Possible, but they sleep in bed with me. I do sleep pretty soundly.

No need for one with the 40/20/40 "bench seat" which in reality has the same 10 way buckets as the "bucket seat" version. Center portion is not just a jump seat, the center seat cushion hides a large (ignition key) locking storage compartment in addition to the non locking one in the flip armrest.

They make one of those vaults for that compartment as well.

There are kits you can buy with small rubber bladders like a blood pressure cuff that can be placed at the top of a door and pumped up to create a crack large enough to fish the door lock button ...that's my guess as to how it was done quick and quiet. That info cost me $160 once when i locked my keys inside with no spare available.

This. I've seen someone fish a coat hanger thru the top of a closed window/door and pull up the lock thingie to unlock.

I have heard that they have a senor that can open your vehicles by triggering your fob signal if the keys are by the door or window. We keep our keys to our vehicles in a metal box in our entry way. Hubby is retired from military avionics and understand these things.

This is very true. It's basically an amplifier. If you have any vehicles with the key free ignitions, this is what they target. They amplify the signal sitting in your house that makes the vehicle think you're standing next to it. It unlocks. Then the amplifier allows them to start the car and drive off.

Not a problem with these particular vehicles, but definitely something to watch out for.

I have walked outside my house and found a GFs car unlocked or with the trunk open because she accidentally pressed the remote while it was in her pocket

I thought of this too. I have bent over/ pick something up and had the chapstick in my pocket press buttons on the remote.

I bet you don't know if the doors were locked or unlocked after the event because you just hit the fob as you walked to your truck, as one would normally do.

Sucks to hear. I'm guessing the pry the door and push the unlock button with a stick method of entry.

I've had that done 2 or 3 times in my last truck. Wouldn't set the alarm off, as you're only flexing the door by 1/8" or less.

Yeah, but have you ever locked the truck with the remote while sitting inside? Then hit the unlock on the door? The alarm goes off. Truck is right outside of my bedroom window...I would have heard that at least. I can't imagine they unlocked it manually without the alarm going off. That's why I would think they had used something electronic...I'm not up on all the new technology, so not sure how it works.

Tricky thing is...they closed the door, and hid the stuff they took but didn't want. I have no idea when it really happened. There was nothing out of place, and I don't dig through the console every time I get in...will now.

Well, my guess of someone coming from the water...I ALWAYS, ALWAYS lock my truck. Regardless of where I'm at. I live in a gated community, but my truck is visible from the river. They stole my pistol, and $4...removed the tie downs and placed them next to the truck on the ground. Took everything from the center console, nothing is in open view, I have dark tint and keep a sun shield on the windshield. Mostly older folks in the neighborhood...no young relatives ever come by. I live in the very back, so get 1-2 vehicles a day drive past my truck. I've reported the pistol as stolen, cop came and took prints from the truck.

I was guessing maybe someone came from the water, as that's open to the public. But how did they enter the truck without the key/remote. I don't pay for onstar...does that matter?

Shit, I even log on my app and it will ask if I still own my old truck which makes me think I could just say yes and mess with it (I wouldn't but it's a possibility that you could). Which leads me to ask, was your truck purchased used or new? But back to the question, no I don't think it matters if you pay for it or not. Our trucks are equipped with WiFi which serves as another access point. Technology in these vehicles has grow quicker than the security protecting them. I might do some research on this and see what I can do to help lock down my truck more.

this is how it is done.it is a big deal out here in California and how a lot of new cars are stolen.what is nice about our trucks is that you might be able to get into them with this tech.but you still need a key to drive it.

Shit, I even log on my app and it will ask if I still own my old truck which makes me think I could just say yes and mess with it (I wouldn't but it's a possibility that you could). Which leads me to ask, was your truck purchased used or new? But back to the question, no I don't think it matters if you pay for it or not. The truck was purchased brand new, out of state. It has never been in for any service yet. Only at 2,000 miles...I don't drive much. Nobody has access to my keys. They stay upstairs in the house, approx 100yds away from the vehicle. It does not have the push button start or the proximity unlock...and I religiously lock the truck. Always, always, always lock it. I'm paranoid that way. I hit the lock button inside, then push the lock on the remote multiple times to hear the horn honk while walking away from the vehicle.

I'm more curious at this point as to how the heck someone breached the exterior without setting off any alarm. Maybe it's broken?

Its why I bought a 2016 Sierra base model.....no keyfob.....truck not listening for an unlock command.

But they can copy the chirp as you lock your vehicle. This was happening a few years ago at Christmas time at the shopping center just a few blocks away from us. You would hear it chirp when you locked it, but if they have a sensor that can hold it for about 30 seconds then unlock your vehicle. Several people noticed that their vehicle were being unlocked as they walked away. Those that did not notice had their vehicles stolen. I will will to say that they have most likely been able to improve their system and it can hold it much longer allowing you to totally walk away from your vehicle before they unlock it.
