Why won't my tank fill up?

My local Food City will limit you to 20 gal if your using their value card and are using what they call fuel bucks, it’s a .15 cent per gallon discount for spending so much with the store.

Giant goes up to, I believe, $1.70 max off. I filled up for .30 cents per once, a couple years ago when gas was under 2 bucks....

After fill-up, go to the Onstar app on your phone and query vehicle status. It'll show how many gallons you have if you update it.

Admittedly new to the truck game, but I have a '17 Sierra Denali and no matter how much gas I need, it will never fill past 20 gallons. It stops it at the pump and I end up leaving with less than a full tank.

What's the purpose of this and how do I get it to fill up completely?

.02 Problem is either the fill station or the truck. If it does the same thing at a different station it is the truck. Try to fill with additional gas manually after a click off until you are sure the tank is really full and then check the gauge. If the gauge reads full, it is your filling procedure or a screwed up baffle in the tank......if less than full a bad gas tank sending unit.

Interesting... Never heard of a fuel limit by gallon. We have some stations here where there's a $100 limit to fuel up, but you just have to insert your card again and keep going.

We have stations that limit by both dollar amount or volume...it's a pain when you have a large tank to fill. And a lot of times, the card readers are set to only allow you to run your card once during a predetermined time (e.g., swipe once every half hour) that caused further frustrations.

20 gallons would be around $60, so that pretty typical...they are usually set for a max of $75 or $100 around here.

Update - filled up yesterday just left the pump on auto click. It filled the tank full. I believe what many have said in the thread is true - we hit the fuel station limit

Some gas stations will let you go over their pre-determined limit if you go to the attendant and ask him before pumping.Having a 42 gallon tank I've done this many times when it's very low.

I suppose there's an OUTSIDE chance that your sending unit is out of wack.

I had an '05 explorer that had the sending unit go wacko after I shot some Techron through it. Eventually corrected itself but had the sending unit swapped under warranty anyhow.

Just a thought.
