If you aren't towing you don't need it. I have both and the 6.2isnt that much better

Thats the exact reason you don't need the 6.2 lol. Both the 5.3 and 6.2 have enough power to tow more than the chassis can handle.

The only purpose for the 6.2 is fun, and it's completely different than the 5.3 in that regard. The extra 65hp feels like an extra 120hp

I own both, a '14 5.3L and a '15 6.2L. If you wont miss the upgrade money and enjoy power, it would be foolish not to take the jump up to the bigger engine. You are adding nearly 70hp over the 5.3L which would 'almost' be like adding a stage 1 supercharger. The trucks drive completely different, your not forcing your foot into the pedal to maintain speed up common grades, your not revving it out to 3,500rpm all the time to accelerate at a half legitimate rate, just an all around better drive to be quite honest. To be fair my 5.3L is a WT 6spd and my 6.2L is SLT 8spd so that may play into the comfort thing a bit. The new 5.3L is much more potent than the last Gen IV's 5.3L but it still wont hold a candle to the L86. If you can afford it, don't skip out on it. Just test drive the two back to back, the decision will make itself.

My 5.3 must have been a factory freak then or they snuck a 6.2 under the hood because it went pretty good. I test drove 4 6.2s before I ended up with the one I have and they all went about the same. Maybe the little extra weight of the crew cab for the 6.2 compared to double cab 5.3 made a difference too. I do agree the 6.2 goes with less throttle but wide open not a huge difference except at highway speed. Honestly I test drove a 15 ecoboost and it was quicker than both both I could switch for Ford and I don't know how the aluminum will hold up and the were worse on gas.

It's called the Placebo Effect.

It's a helluva placebo then

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not discounting the fact that the 6.2 is a great motor, but 65 HP is just that; 65 HP. I don't have the torque numbers handy but that's where the "seat of the pants" feel is. If it feels like double that to you as you say, that is what the Placebo feel is. These 6.2 threads lead me to believe that the 6.2 is really 700+ HP and the 5.3 only a mere 140.

That's the thing, it's not just the seat of the pants, the truck is physically, numerically, scientifically, however you would like to phrase it, a lot faster than the 5.3

5.3

0-60..... 7.3 seconds

1/4 ....15.5@90mph

6.2

0-60 5.7 seconds

1/4.....14.0@100mph

From measured standpoint, they are in a completely different class.

Totally different class. Should be competition class only..not for street use. Just messin with ya LOL! Those are pretty good numbers.

I bought the 6.2 after driving both. The passing power alone was enough to sell me on the upgrade. Well that and Ive owned quite a few faster cars. Too bad they dont offer the larger engines in lower trim levels :/

At the rear wheels there's only about a 40ish hp difference

exactly. IMO if you discount the 6.2 or think it's comparable to the 5.3 you either don't know, are jealous, or aren't a "truck/car guy" which reverts back to not knowing

You guys realize your arguing about 5000 pound trucks lol! The 6.2 is faster than the 5.3 that goes without saying, but you make it seem like the 6.2 will take a corvette or a mustang in a drag race. It is a truck not a sports car! If you want to go fast there are a lot better vehicles for that. Also when you quote those 0 to 60 times, that is stock not with a lift and big mud tires. After you put that stuff on your 6.2 it is probably pretty close to the same 0 to 60 as a stock 5.3 Even a camaro with a 4 cylinder runs 0-60 faster than a 6.2 truck, so does a 6 cylinder camaro. The bottom line is whether you have a 5.3 or a 6.2 they will both do what a truck engine needs to do, the 6.2 will just do it a little easier.
