This thread is embarrassing, all these trucks 1500-2500-3500 have done the same thing since '07 1/2.

But try make people understand and believe that lol... fail..... hahaha.

Actually, there is a slight difference between the 1500's and 2500's. On my 2009 and 2012 1500's, if I was cruising along in D, and dropped them into manual mode, they would not downshift. They would just go into M(whatever gear it was in at the time). On the 2500's, they will downshift if you do the same thing.

My 2012 2500 does not downshift when placed in "M"...

That's interesting. I wonder when the 2500's started doing the downshift thing?

My '14 did a single downshift when put into manual, don't recall my '12 doing it. Not a big deal, just programming.

is there any way that you can lock the transmission in one gear. in the mountains I tried manual mode and it would keep downshifting when pulling hard. sometimes it would go to 5000 rpm with hardly any pressure on the accelerator. last truck I had was a duramax with a 6 speed manual. don't have to shift hardly at all. now the new one goes up and down way too many times. tired of listeng to it every time we go to the mountains. wish I could lock the gear I want. an let me be the driver.every time it pulls alittle hard goes down one or two gears. hate the sound when it goes two.big deal if it slows down 2 miles an hour. cant stand having it shift soo much. when will gm bring back manuals.

Cannot be done, I recommend you use manual mode and keep it in 4th, gas motor does not make it's peak torque till 4400rpm vs the Duramax at 1650rpm.

Let rev my friend, enjoy the sound.

Not with the stock programming you can't... I agree it would be nice lol. M is more a feel good position than anything... or let's you start in second lol. Ford allows that holding a gear and lugging but GM doesn't. It gets old listening to it.. on my older trucks I played with the tune and got mine to hold and pull... It can be done but you need some tuning to do it.

Manual in my opinion just gives you a way to keep the truck from shifting too much, if it's hunting between two gears, you can lock that higher one out. I use it on back roads when less than 50mph.
