Anti-theft switch

I used to have one in my old El Camino. It actually stopped someone from stealing it. I found the ignition switch slide hammered out one morning.

I don’t think you need one in these new trucks with a chipped key. I could be wrong.

If you don't have the key, they will not start...I found this out the hard way when I tried to make the factory key more compact for storage. Yes, there is a small chip in the plastic covering, and no the truck (even my WT) won't start without that chip in the key...

There have been a few K2xx's stolen in my area recently. I have no idea how the thieves got them to start and move, but they did. I suspect they are maybe using some sort of a wireless emulation device, or?. Who knows?

Hackers have cracked the RF codes on many other makes so far, so it's not out the realm of possibilities that they've done it on these.

It's very little cost to install one or two hidden switches, it just takes some time. If someone does try to steal my truck, having a hidden switch will reduce the odds of my truck going AWOL by a very large amount.

LOL. People put all these high tech switches and chipped keys in, but all you need is a flatbed and a comealong. :banghead:

Agreed. However, they tend not to steal from peoples driveways at 3 am using that method, as it tends to be a bit less than subtle, or quick. The trucks in my area were taken from residences.

What kind of trucks? New or old? Newer ones would be more difficult to get away with but nothing is impossible nowadays...

I would think there would be a fuel pump relay in the fuse box under the hood. That would probably be a safe place to grab the wires to wire in a switch.

It's 2017 and it's called hook & book.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, the trucks are all K2xx late models.
