The 2008 used a VERY similar design pump that is now available aftermarket from Alphatherm. One difference is that the 2008 required the driver to turn a switch on. The Alphatherm uses a microprocessor to turn the unit on once the voltage is above 13 VDC. Just use this one:

Yep, I got a replacement after the dealer disconnected the factory setup due to the recall. Alphatherm sounds right for the brand.

Yep - GM tried this before and set a few trucks on fire.

 

Mine went through a couple recalls on the wiring harness, before on the 3rd trip to the dealer, they completely removed the system, and gave me a check for $100.

Remote start works pretty good for warming things up.

But it wouldn't create any heat till the engine coolant starts to warm. The Alpha Therm system starts creating heat as soon as the engine is running and battery voltage is above 13 volts. Suppose to take between 10-20 seconds to reach 140-150F

Won't burn the truck down....

I do the same and use a winter washer fluid. The one I use is a little more extreme but I can go out to a frozen windshield and in a few swipes with the wipers its all clear. Last year was the biggest test when it got to -53f still worked.

What about a heated rest? Similar to Subaru or Toyota. Uses the same type of system the rear window defroster uses to clear snow and ice from where the wipers reside.

Not all of them. The blue stuff (and green "Bug Wash" stuff) freezes solid.

 

Note the label that says, "+32°F".

I was running the green stuff from RainX, it froze at +20F...

I run the orange Winter RainX year round with good results.

Everybody is talking about the heated system helping with ice (which it did) but what I miss about it is how well it helped clear bugs off the windshield in the summer.  It did a great job compared to the standard un-heated system!
