Hello Guys need some help. I have a 2007 gmc sierra classic 1500. It has a gu5 rear end that took a crap on me. My question is, is there any other differentials i can swap without having to modify anything.

Im looking to get a replacment at a wrecking yard but cant find a gu5.

I dont care about hauling or my truck being faster or fuel effeciency. I just need the thing rolling again.

Please any help would be appreciated.

On Car-part.com, I see one as low as $200. You would have to input your specs though, as there are about 40 different vehicle options to choose from for that year/make/model.

Rear Axle Assembly
Chevy Truck Silverado 1500    Crew Cab, 6 lug wheel, 3.23 ratio (opt GU5),4X2,locker-193K    193,000    B    223902    $200    Del City Pickup Parts USA-OK(Del-City) Request_Quote 1-800-701-5969 / 1-405-677-2431 Request_Insurance_Quote

Thanks for the help. Im just looking to know if I strictly have to go with a gu5 rear end or if I can install something else. I want something that will drop right in.

If you are desperate to get the vehicle moving, you could possibly remove the rear drive shaft in put it in 4x4, but I would not recommend it - unless there is volcano or a zombie apocalypse. As for what you can swap out without mods, I have no idea. You might be able to fix your rear end though. What exactly is wrong with it?

i just changed the rear diff in a 2005 sierra 1500 with a diff out of a 1999 chev 1500 both trucks had the same rpo codes, just had to switch backing plates because the 99 had rear disk and the 2005 had drum brakes

You can put any rear in there that fits.

You have 3.23 gears, even a gu6 with 3.42s will work or even a gt4 with 3.73 will work.

I’d go with what’s cheaper and could work. Or open up yourself and see what’s wrong with it.

You will just have to get your truck programmed with the correct gear ratio for the ecu.

I have a 2006 chevy silverado 1500 crew cab with  brake shoes on the rear. I believe it's a gu5. My question is: Can I swap it with a 2007 gu6 with disc brake? I can find a gu6 with disc brakes for $220.00 The brake conversion kit is $480.00 and up. I'm not liking those kits. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
