Use the cargo lights while driving.

Is there a way to make my cargo light switch work when driving forward? Thanks!

From the factory no there is not. This has been asked several times on here and so far as far as I know no one has found a “work around” yet but I’m sure there is one just need someone to figure it out.

Someone posted how they got this for. From what I recall, it wasn’t easy. They had to run some wiring (if I recall).

Last I knew, rear-facing white ON, while driving forward, was ILLEGAL.  Well, at least in CA.

Put it in neutral and coast for a few seconds....

The better question is why would you need it on while driving?

Is the idea of this modification to check on an unstable load while driving at night?  If so, carry a flashlight, pull-over and check your load properly.  A look through your rear-view mirror while driving gives little information and the white light coming from the back of your truck can be disorientating to other drivers.  Some of the other night drivers may not be as alert as you may think.

2 things... First, if there were other motorist on the road, then they would be providing the light I was looking for. Secondly, I don't see a problem with wanting to peek back at your load without pulling over... Maybe if more people did this, the roads would be safer? This question was because of a recent trip pulling a trailer. Had to go down a long stretch of highway with no street lights, and had there actually been cars behind me, I would have been able to see my load. So please do save the all high and mighty bs!

Any white lights on the rear of the vehicle while moving forward are illegal on the federal level I believe. I understand the desire to do a quick peek every now and again as a peace of mind thing. I've carried a few oddly shaped loads in the past of stuff that wasn't mine and wanted to make sure I didn't take a corner too hard or a slope too steep, would have been great to have a light more than just the few street lamps I passed.

 

Again though, I think it's going to be a bit of work and if you are ever caught it's an almost guaranteed ticket. Do what you wanna do, just sharing.

I previously brought this topic up awhile back and was getting the same b.s responses. I did download a diagram for this circuit. It's been awhile but If i remember right the switch is ground triggered. I was going to fool with it and run some new wires but things have come up so it's on the back burner for the time being. Good luck

I think I knew about the - switch but I never did find a wiring diagram to see if it’s ran through the BCM if so might check with these guys and see if they can “unlock” it? I’m sure if they do you’d have to sign a waiver for “off road” only. This is on my list of questions for them when I send mine in the fall/winter to get some other programming done on it. Definitely wouldn’t be a cheap option if that is all your were to have them do.

It is a ground signal trigger from the BCM that triggers the relay. Let me think about this more and see if I can figure something out. Maybe a secondary trigger signal.

I’ve got a latching relay I’m using for another project. Let me see if I can use that signal to trigger it.
