Finding a new truck on the lot with this configuration may take a week or two!  However, if GM did produce a few with these specifications, I think they would not spend 24 hrs on the lot.

Probably wouldn't even make it off the trailer.

I have a bench in my 2018, but no lockable "gun case."  Are they optional, or did they do away with them on a certain model year?

bottom compartment in the jump seat had a lock. We would put various valuables in there. It wasn't Ft Knox but would keep out lesser criminals.

Even if it was not lockable, the extra storage space there would have been nice.  What year was that truck you had with the locker?

2015.

It does seem like a lot of wasted space with the center console

Great topic for a thread Don.

My must haves are 4x4, divided front seats/center console and red gauge/knob backlighting.

I’ve leased/owned this truck in the following flavors. 5.3 V8 Sierra, V6 Silverado, double cab, crew cab, short box, regular box, Z71, All Terrain, heated and non heated seats. Park assist and no assist and I’m sure there’s a lot of other differences.

When I finally decided to buy one, the Silverado wasn’t an option solely because they have blue backlighting. Sounds crazy but it bothered my eyes enough that I wouldn’t even consider them even knowing the price was less for a Silverado vs Sierra for essentially the same truck.

The divided front seats are a must only because of the center console. Again, it sounds a little crazy and even though I rarely have a front passenger, I just hated the connected footwell. I was always worried something would roll on the floor over to my side and under the pedals. When I did have a passenger, it’s like my personal bubble was being encroached upon.

4x4 (might be considered a major option). I don’t use it often but when I do use it, I really need it. Midwest winters absolutely blow when you only have rear 2wd.

No need to be ashamed of what features or reasons you’re passing a car up. To each their own. You’re the one paying for it so you get to decide what’s important. ‘Mercia!

I'll never buy a truck without cooled seats or Android auto ever again.

If I could choose just one amenity to add to my truck, it would be a cooled driver’s seat. If I drive for more than 10 minutes, the back of my shirt looks like I just finished working out at the gym.

If I could choose just one amenity to add to my truck, it would be a leather wrapped steering wheel.  I was not going to bump up to the SLE trim level just for that though.

I saw a poster here swapped a leather wrapped wheel from a wrecker, for only $50.  It's something I'm thinking about, but the airbag makes me nervous, even though it is basically a plug and play job.

Thirty years ago my preferred options on a 1/2 ton were power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. Today these are not optional and I should be happy.  However, I find myself shunning potential purchases because of frills I would have mocked  a decade or two ago!  My local dealership just brought in an '18 SLE with max tow.  It's a beautiful truck but lacking power/heated seats and doesn't have a sliding rear window.  I am embarrassed to say that these particular options are preventing me from negotiating on this unit.  I know I would get a great deal and would manage fine with the more spartan list of options.  (Features like dual zone HVAC, adjustable pedals,  auto-dimming mirrors, centre console, etc. are also lacking in this particular unit but are not deal breakers, imo.)   This truck does have the max tow package, factory spray-in liner, 8" screen and is a great looking truck!   I think I need a re-boot!  A '60's 6cyl, 3spd without pb, ps or radio for a year would give me a greater appreciation for today's "base" model trucks!  What option other than the major items like engine size and colour would be a deal breaker for you?

My "Must Haves" in the 1500 are 4x4 and 6.2L.  If you get a 6.2, you're guaranteed an LTZ/SLT or higher.  If your budget allows, that's what I would go for.  I had a 2010 Silverado LT with the 6.2 NHT.  It is probably tied for the best vehicle I have ever owned and I regret selling it everyday even though I was able to step up to a 2016 LTZ duramax 2 1/2 years ago.  If you have the time, money and determination, you can add a lot of features later.  That is what I did to my 2010 LT and I'm currently doing to my 2016 LTZ along with many others who are currently modifying their K2's.  Swapping drivetrains is a lot more expensive, time consuming and difficult.

Agree on the 6.2L.  When I bought mine I also test drove an identical truck with a 5.3L and the 8-speed...…..no comparison and well worth buying premium fuel and loose a couple MPGs.

Premium gas reached $1.72  a litre in Vancouver today.  This translates to $6.55 per US gallon.  (Regular is about 20 cents/litre less.)  Prices are predicted to rise further over the next few months.  This significant surge in fuel costs makes it harder to part with my V6!  It would also be much easier to buy a new truck if my current truck wasn't so well equipped and has nothing owed!  A similarly equipped '18  (leather, heated seats, sliding rear window etc.)  would add a $20K debt to my retirement income along with the increased fuel costs.  I love GM trucks and want the ability to tow heavier trailers, but my  willingness and ability to pay has limits!
