Regardless of price where will the reliability of the RAM and Tundra be 5-10 years from now?

Aside from Price this is another debate to the Brands.

FCA is not known for their reliability. Toyota, more so.....

I wouldn’t argue long term reliability, but these guys are all leasing pretty cheap and long term reliability is not a concern.  The Raptor friend bought used, my brother traded his 14 Tundra  and got a lot for it and purchased the 17, he is not concerned with long term reliability but gets good money for his Toyota trade in due to Toyotas perceived reputation.

I think way too much is being made of sales numbers. Here's one dealer in my area trying unload new 2017 Ram's let alone a pile of 18's and 19's. Of course, not every dealer has this many 17's but it's not the only dealer doing this. This is one is the best example because it's clearly showing the discounts. At some point, the dealer has to sell these trucks to real people. Dealer sold isn't the same as customer sold.

In December of 13 when I bought my 14 GMC, I went originally went to buy a leftover 13 Denali. They had 13 left. It’s possible for a dealer to over order. When I bought my 17 Camry the Toyota dealer had 40 and the redesigned 18 we’re coming. They knocked 10K off with no negotiating. I got them to throw in extended warranty on top of it. In my area is starting to be dominated by Rams, it used to be Fords.

If I needed a half ton I'd be all over those leftovers.

Considering we can get $35-40k for a low mile top-spec Sierra/Silverado here on trade.  Not bad when your trade in covers 110% of the invoice cost of the new vehicle lol.

The 18's are discounted the same at this dealer and the 19's into the $14-$15K range for Laramie and up models. This is a great way to grab market share and if I was looking for  half ton today I'd likely get one of these but it's impossible to think that this is a sustainable business model. How many of these 17's will end up at an auction? If this was only one dealer doing it or a fleet cancellation sobeit but there's several dealers with excess stock in the Edmonton region practically giving them away like this. The second you sign the dotted line on your 17', 18' or 19' Ram it's worthless here.

Nissan did the exact same thing and ordered way too many XD's and it took well into the third model year to clear out the excess. Now, they have a handful of XD's and most of them are gas.

It's a great market for the comsumer to get a cheap Hemi/8-speed truck, though. No argument there.

My Brother in law is auto broker/dealer in Alberta, he was just telling me the other day about brand new 17-18 Rams going through the local dealer auctions, and it's FCA themselves selling as the dealers have way too many trucks not moving. The prices vary, but factor in the US VS CDN dollar I could almost buy a new Ram, bring it home (WA) and make money. I get blown away every trip I take to Alberta with the sheer amount of trucks both on the road and in dealers inventory. He also told me the 19's are not moving well and the Ram stores already have 15% off MSRP. Sucks all around because this will put the resale on my 16 Ram  really in the toilet!

GM knows they had no chance against the Ram with every auto media review attacking the horrendous interior and MPG.  They have the worst MPG compared to Ford and Ram.  GM always used to brag on their MPG being best in class.  I have always been a GM truck owner but this new truck is a huge disappointment.  They really need a midcycle refresh with main priority to a completely new interior and also bring back the features they removed.  Also need to tweak the engines for better mpg.  The Chevy needs a better front bumper to integrated the air skirts better like the GMC.  The rest of the truck is perfect I think exterior design wise.

My thoughts exactly. Hell, I could even deal with the interior if they simply left it as it was 2014-18 and just added more room and rear console vents to the crew cabs. Still no rain-sense wipers or power tilt wheel, though.

Automotive News is reporting rumors of an interior refresh in two years...

All GM cares about is maximum profit per vehicle, that’s why we got that craptacular interior. I will not buy one of these trucks until the interior is updated. They have already found out they made a disastrous mistake by every review that dings them for the interior.

Ford achieved the same thing as the ugly GM air curtains except you can’t see it. They have a simple cutout in the facia. Two years in the auto industry is an eternity for the updated interior.

    • Folks, Have a great new 2026 WT  (std cab, 2.7/4WD) w/base 40/20/40 mech adj bench "fake buckets"  (with lower and upper center console) heavy vinyl seats.  Overall the seats are very comfortable and the vinyl is heavy and appears less likely to 'split out'. Am very tall (6'5")  + a bad back/osteporosis/former hyperparathyroidism so ease/range of movement is a bit restricted.  The truck rides a bit high and I use a nerf step bar w/my left foot to step in, then I put right foot/leg in, drag my butt in  & get seated.  Worked fine in my 2018 RAM quadCab. But I end up dragging my butt over the left raised sidecushsion area of vinyl seat, and due to texture there's fair amount of traction on slide inward.  (ArmorAll didn't improve.) If the seat were even ~1/2" - 3/4" lower it'd be helpful, but base seats just have the forward/backward underseat bail and the side lever for tilt which really doesn't affect seat height.   I really don't want to 'de-puff' the left side sidecushion forming the  fake 'bucket'. I know one company sells 'seat elevator blocks':  but is there a simple way of lowering the height of the driver seat instead?   Thanks Bill W San Jose
    • I have a basic 2026 1500 WT  (2.7L/4WD reg cab shorttbed). Comfy, generally happy with electronics/radio - but is there a way I can add switches to steering wheel right-side position (curr. empty) so I can adjust volume, push phone button to voice dial, etc? Bill W San Jose
    • The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.
    • So I purchased the Range unit for my 2026 and I am seeing different locations suggested for the ECM . Can anyone confirm wither under hood, left side or right side or behind the wheelwell?
    • Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.
