5th paragraph:

“While the half-ton full-size GM pickups adapted mixed-material construction for 2019 in order to cut weight, the HD Silverado sticks with all steel for its ladder frame and body.”

No aluminum. I also heard one of the engineers say it but can’t locate the video right now.

I though that would be the case went I heard the body panels were all different except for the roof.

What is really funny is the new Ford Ranger is all steel.

Yeah, I think that’s because our “new” Ford Ranger has been sold elsewhere in similar form since 2011. That was well before Ford trucks went aluminum-crazy. There’s already a new new one slated for 2021.

I like the idea of the 2020 HD being all steel. Hopefully it helps keep the price reasonable...

I have been looking at new Super Duty's, and the body panel fit is pretty bad on them.  Lot of uneven gaps, particularly the doors.  Also, lots of complaints about water and wind leaks on the Ford forums.

Aluminum panels will allow more noise through also.

Very true. Buddies 2017 F150 roof sounds thin to me , like when it rains the noise seems louder on the roof area then steel body roof

I've found my 2017 F250 Platinum to be as quiet, if not more, than the 2015 Silverado 2500HD LTZ it replaced. Maybe the upper trims have more/better sound insulation, but it's definitely not louder under any circumstances so far. My panels fit well and look fine from all angles, so I can't relate to those issues, either.

Perhaps aluminum doors and hood would be a good addition if they really are steel...

I put the order guides linked in my order time post:

Weights are up about 200lbs or more per configuration vs. K2 HD.

Example:

K2 2500HD CCSB L96 - 6532lbs.

T1 2500HD CCSB gas w/17" wheels - 6880lbs.

T1 2500DH CCSB gas w/18 or 20" wheels - 6909lbs.

Mind you, that K2 weight is base as base can be.

The T1XX HD is also larger in every aspect compared to K2xx HD.

Yes, interior space improved but the truck is now taller, longer and wider.

I wonder if fuel economy will be less than K2xx, like how people reporting in the half ton T1xx are getting less mpg than their K2xx.

Glad GM didn’t downsize the fuel tank in the HD like they did in the LD.

All but 2 cab/engine combo.  Double cab standard box diesel now have a 29 gallon tank, and regular cab long box diesel have a 28 gallon tank.  All the rest are 36 gallons.  All gas are 36 gallons.

Why the loss in those two?  DEF relocation.  If they left the DEF tank behind the passenger tire, the tanks would still be 36 gallons.  However, by relocating the DEF filler to the gas door, the tank was relocated to in front of the fuel tank to accommodate such a move.  The two short wheelbase chassis reflect this movement.

Glad to see the DEF tank hidden. Especially after it grew to an even larger eye sore with the l5p. Running boards couldn’t even hide it like on the LML where it was mostly hidden with nerf bars.

I’m hearing more noise around the doors on my 2023 Sierra1500.And it’s not the weather striping, I’ve dusted them with chalk and they are sealing up good. Now I’m thinking it’s filtering up from the rocker panels and up the center door post. For the money of these trucks they should be getting quieter not louder!

    • Average Assembly 4.8%   That's the likelihood of a light duty vehicle reaching 250,000 miles. Link below has the stats on this. Among pickups the 350 series (Dodge)  and higher (450 Ford) are most likely and nothing American built in the lighter trucks pegs a number higher than the overall average.  200K and up is the stomping grounds of Asian vehicles. Toyota Sequoia the leader at 39.1% probability.      https://www.autoweek.com/news/a68886903/vehicles-most-likely-to-last-over-250000-miles/   Likelihood drops dramatically at 100,000 miles of reaching even 150,000 miles. 250,000 is deep in the tail of the curve.    I've been told by the 'experts' that I don't need oils of the caliber I use. My high viscosity is damaging my motors. Ash content it to high and WILL foul plugs and kill cats and O2's. I don't need that much ZDP; my choice is over added and not cutting edge. I change it to often. I baby them to much.    Three Honda's reached 200K + and none used oil. All Red Line motors. All sold to friends or family. One Toyota reached 300K using oil, Pennzoil. Dizzy 300K using QSUD until it cashed the rings at 80K then whatever but often ever since. Did you know this engine still sports the OEM timing chain and is dead silent? Pepper spitting into the wind short of 200K, Red Line and changed often. Uses zero oil. A HPFP and a pinion seal. Still using most parts it left Fort Wayne with. So 50% of my vehicles have gone past 250K and 100% of the last half dozen past 200K. Of these two using "shelf oils' did so using abnormal oil and the four that used a premium boutique oil did not. There might be something there the experts have missed. 🤔
    • i dont know where you been reading...they make a top notch product..people say lots of great things about them..yes it can be difficult to get a hold of them when you need help sometimes put when  you do it is great service...   as for the actual question at hand i have the ccv mod and i vented to atmos in my case...I got my ccv from somewhere else but i have plenty of VSE product...for starters i use their tuning on my 22 duramax
    • It's not that it sits for extended periods. I drive it every couple of weeks. However, I did consider draining the DEF and replacing it.    Don't you get a "Poor quality DEF warning" if its bad?
    • Try draining the def and relacing with new if it has been sitting for a long time. Def does go bad after a little while.
    • Thanks @Viktorrocks15 if you are still out there.   I followed your instructions and worked out great, went to the scrap yard and procured 2016 escalade cluster, hud, bezel, and switch. Got lucky and found a Camaro in the u-pull with the HUD bezel.   I made my own harness with these diagrams: https://www.gmupfitter.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/23_Escalade_Escalade_ESV_Electrical_Body_Builder_SM_en_US_2022OCT25.pdf   I used escalade cluster because its the best one that will work IMO. Still need to get it programmed but it looks really good.
