Great forum thread. Thanks to the OP for starting it!

2020 Sierra 1500 5'8" bed. After reading all 12 pages of this forum thread it looks like the only choices for a roll-up, non-Velcro option for a tonneau is BAK Revolution X2 or X4. I had a Truxedo tonneau on a previous truck and after about 9 years the Velcro began to wear out and wouldn't hold the sides down. I wasn't able to find a way to replace the Velcro.

If there is another option for a roll-up, non-Velcro tonneau out there?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I am looking at the Enthuze Soft Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover because I like the fact I can remove it myself, price point and Made in the USA.

I was wondering if anyone has one a picture of it on a 2019 and up, it's going on my 2021 RST.

Take a look at the Extang TuffTonno. It uses a "Peel & Seal" closure. It works like a jeep soft top, using a flexible J channel instead of velcro.

Anyone have any experience with the Leer HF650 bed cover? Looks like a good option being a quad panel... however hard to find any reviews. Thoughts?

I have a RetraxPro XR for my 2019 Sierra 1500 Standard Bed and like it but I'm going to sell it and get a shell for the dog and kid gear.

Let me know if anyone is interested in a RetraxPro XR in great condition, I'll make you a great deal.  I have the Yakima bars that go on top if interested!

Hey, I know this was a while ago but what didn't you like about the RetraxPro XR??  I was thinking of changing out my Tri-Fold to this option so it would be easier to protect items in my truck while hauling a dog crate as well.  My Tri-Fold requires it to be either all the way open or closed.

I went with this cover because of the 20% discount plus free shipping and was also able to use my GM Rewards points also. The cover was ordered last Friday and came in on Tuesday(obviously the strike didn't effect the accessories). $365 discount was nice.

It is warranted for 3 years by GM and guaranteed to fit. The assist handle for the MultiPro tailgate works and the auto-down tailgate still works.

It was easy to install and works nicely. The color is matte black and it's powder coated all aluminum constructed. There are no T slots on my cover although there may be one on GMC's site.

I like the retractable better than a trifold personally. This one is made by Tetrax and the email they/Retrax sent me said that it is the ProMX with another name for GM.

Any regrets on having that 11x11 cannister at the front of the bed?

Hey guys! I just put on my new tonneau cover. I bought it online and paid about $1670 for it delivered. I ordered the aluminum Retraxpro XR because I wanted the option to install crossbars on the rails. I literally just installed it about an hour ago so there's not much I can say except for the looks. I think it looks super clean and nice. The installation took a little over an hour because I watched someones installation video on youtube. I can't speak for the water yet leakage yet but hopefully I can update you all one of these days.

No regrets at all. Everything I've hauled so far never got in the way of the canister. I've hauled a couple couches on this thing but i would just leave the tailgate open. I'm still very happy with this purchase.

Here are my thoughts on the tonneau covers I've owned over the years...

  • Lund Fiberglass on an 01 Silverado.  Positives - Other than the basic idea of protecting contents from the elements, I can't think of any.  Negatives - Heavy, unable to stand or store items on,  huge PIA to take off.  DON"T EVEN CONSIDER is all I can say about these old school fiberglass covers.
  • Line-X (Diamondback SE) on a 09 Silverado.  Positives - Tough,  can stand and jump on top of it (I'm 6'3" 225), the front and back fold was convenient at times, good seal.  Negatives - Not flush with bed, not the prettiest, makes truck look like an industrial vehicle (not what I was going for), not terribly difficult to remove, but takes more time and effort than all but the fiberglass cover.
  • Extang Solid Fold 2.0 - Positives - Not as easy as Armor Flex to open (but still easy IMHO), didn't seem to scratch, lightweight, easy to remove, good seal.  Negatives - Not flush with truck bed, moisture can freeze between cover and tailgate making tailgate to tough to open.
  • Undercover Armor Flex - Positives - Easy, shouldn't scratch (I've only had this for a month), lightweight, easy to remove, good seal, flush with truck bed.  Negatives - Seal is a little crinkly (doesn't lay perfectly straight, flat).

In my experience here in Michigan, freezing moisture can/will prevent some function of all tonneau covers listed above.

I had a hard folding cover that I used on 2015 and 2016 1500 standard bed 1500's.

Returned to 2500 standard bed in 2018 and got a Retrax for it. Easier to open without getting in box (especially on the taller 2500...),  Lockable in any position.  Doesn't block rear window when open.  Can be opened without opening tailgate, and tailgate and cover can be closed in any order.

Anyway, change to current 2021 1500 standard bed.

Liked the retrax enough that this truck now has one installed.

On the standard bed, the front corner tiedowns are still accessible (don't know if that's true with a shortbox 1500).

A long winded way of saying that FOR ME the advantages of how it works outweighed the disadvantages of the canister.

They are pricey compared to some of the folding ones. This cover and the one I had on the K2 are the RetraxOne MX version - poly carbonate, no rail system, not powered.

Before the covers listed here I was a cross-bed toolbox with open bed user.

I guess needs /wants change.

Actually looking at that cover its made of polycarbonate... unlike the RetraxPro XR which is of aluminum.  Advantage has an aluminum version but I cant tell if it has the rails as there is no mention of it in the description.

I originally posted this in the tonneau/multipro-tailgate thread, but seems like it'd be useful to put in this thread to have it all together...

https://extang.com/trifecta-2-0-signature-series

I have an AT4 crew cab with the MultiPro tailgate, and I have an Extang 2.0 Signature tonneau, a soft tri-fold type.  My previous Sierra, I'd just throw a tarp over everything, decided I'd at least try out a tonneau with my new Sierra.  Overall, I've liked it.  Installation was included, so I didn't install it myself, but I watched and talked about it w/ him as he installed it, explaining various things about them to me.  It's a tri-fold, but it doesn't lift up against the cab's back window, it stacks into the 3rd segment's position against the cab: if you need the whole bed exposed, you'd have to remove it.  Has been a 'little' hassle once, but, it was easier to deal with not having the entire bed open than it was to bother to remove it.

So, here's the thing about it, in conjunction w/ the multipro tailgate: the whole tailgate opens fine with the tonneau in place.  The tailgate will close fine, if you’re closing the ‘whole’ tailgate.   If you drop the inner tailgate, that's fine too.  The crux of the problem is, closing the inner tailgate with the tonneau latched closed:  the entire tailgate will close with the tonneau in place but the inner tailgate's arc is a little higher, and collides with the tonneau. You have to reach in and unlatch the tonneau so you can flip it open so you can first close the inner tailgate, *then* open the entire tailgate, latch the tonneau back into place, then close the entire tailgate.   You would think, if you have the tonneau in place and the inner tailgate open and the main tailgate closed, that, if you couldn’t just close the inner tailgate (as you would think you should be able to), then it should be easier to open the entire tailgate, close the inner, then close the entire tailgate:  however, if you have the main tailgate closed with the inner tailgate open, it doesn’t let you then open the entire tailgate until the inner is closed.    A bit of a nuisance, but, I can put up with it.
