Clicking/Clank Sound Update

With that being said, I'm not qualified to say your issue is or isn't related to the stub shaft problem or what I heard was definitely the stub shaft noise. Also, what you feel is a click might described as a ping or other sound to me or someone else. Trying to communicate these sounds via words can be wishy washy at best, IMO.

What would be just completely ironic is if the heat shield & other stamping issues GM GPS is supposedly looking at right now ended up curing all these mysterious sounds that have been described in various ways.

I forgot to add to that bit of info in my post above that my chief sent the oil pcv PIP document to GM GPS because they'd never heard of any issues with the pcv making noises - yet there's a pip for a chirping noise coming from the engine (dated 10/2018 IIRC) & no fix due to a supposed engineering change being considered. That make me just roll my eyes & shake my head. Seems like no one at GM (at least among the powertrain folks) knows what's going on with strange noise concerns from customers - only what they've managed to find on their own after more than a year of building trucks and excluding their road test periods prior to production. Test drivers must have been wearing earbuds all day....

I have had a clanking noise under mine since new. It is LOUD. It usually happens under heavy braking with a right hand turn. Only happens once every couple weeks. I know I would never get my service advisor to reproduce it.

Sorry, haven’t heard anything as of yet. I’ve been off on holiday/vacation since 12/19 & not returning until the 13th. Will talk to my engineering chief to see if anything has been discussed. I’m not going to hold my breath over much.

mine's been doing this as well for the past month or so on and off... unfortunately not often enough to bother taking it to the dealer to not be able to reproduce the issue. I had the 2WD jingle issue fixed a few months back, and that particular noise hasn't returned. My clicking noise mostly happens on braking, but occasionally when taking off and seems to be coming from the passenger side underneath the front, whereas the jingle issue in 2WD was clearly (on mine at least) from the drivers side of the vehicle.

2020 Sierra 1500 Denali left front wheel area clicking noise at 1000 miles. Brought it to the dealer and they also heard the noise. Same as posts above slow speed backing up and turning and also while braking you would hear clicking noise. Service rep explained the noise is due to a manufacturing problem when truck is made that the wheels of the larger rims are not torqued to correct specifications! He said the mechanic is re-torquing all the wheels to specifications that GMC require to fix this known problem. I’ll be listening to see if the noise returns. When I left dealership no noise heard.

Hello everyone I’m Brett, i have never posted on this page before. But I have experienced the noises everyone’s explaining and believe it or not I had to have my driveshaft replaced. It was a loud clunk under the truck, as I would accelerate and brake. GMC fixes the problem without an issue. After 3-4 months I’ve noticed the noise again. I have a 2020 at4 carbon pro 6.2.

Hey all, new LT Trail Boss owner here and Im experiencing a similar click/clank sound during low speed breaking or starting from a stop. If I shift from R to N or from D to N the noise sounds nearly identical. I wanted to listen to the attached videos to see if this was the same issue but the vids are gone. Does anyone have these or can repost? Would be much appreciated

so my 19 trail boss had some clunking going on in my front end for a few months now. finally got it to the shop and they said there was a bolt loose under a crossmember and that caused my front end to move around. they tightened it and said it was good to go. I asked if there would be some wear since you have a stationary part moving around and they said no it is good. went home and noticed it again. so back to the shop I go. they put in on the lift multiple times and finally my passenger balljoint just fell apart. the Axel shaft also pulled out and the boot is tore. I just went there to get stuff out of my truck I need since I won't have it for a bit. I should have took a picture. the ball joint had zero grease on it. the shaft you could see what pulled out. I asked since there was no grease on the passenger side, are they going to replace the driver side also. they said no. that blew my mind. this situation could have been very bad if it would have fell apart driving interstate speeds. so here I am driving around a tiny ass equinox and its deer hunting season. I told them I want a truck they said no. I told them I am taking this equinox hunting and plan on hauling a deer in it. nothing else was said.

anyways this is something I would have the service dept take a look at if you have some clunking noise from front end. it was noticeable driving slow and when making turns. especially if I went over little bumps in the road. also when I would take off from a stop I could hear it and feel it.

I am considering on calling corporate to tell them the situation and let them know I want the driver side replaced. if it falls apart and im in the middle of nowhere ice fishing or hunting and have no service, then what do I do. hopefully they understand. it would really suck if it fell apart when I driving 75-80 mph.

I have a 2500 with only the part time t case and have not experienced this in this truck. I would first look for a slip joint or a splined shaft in the driveline. Known noise issue on grand cherokee with the NP242 which has full time option. Some synthetic grease was the fix. Being gm didn't lube other chassis parts before leaving the factory, good chance something else got missed.
