I know most people on here would see this as a blessing, but i am one of the few that actually likes the feature - i took in my RST over the weekend for its first oil change, and drove yesterday with the AC off for the first time since (live in PHX), i then noticed that the Auto Stop feature wasn't kicking in. DIdnt think much of it so this morning, another sub 95 degree morning i decided to roll with the windows down and no AC - and still the Auto Stop isn't working. Any ideas?

Yes, you can only temporarily shut it off from what I've read - and this gets reset every time the truck is shut off.

Looks like there are lots if reasons:

 

The climate control settings
require the engine to be running
to cool or heat the vehicle
interior.

The vehicle battery charge
is low.

The vehicle battery has recently
been disconnected.

Minimum vehicle speed has not
been reached since the last
Auto Stop.

The accelerator pedal is
pressed.

The engine or transmission is
not at the required operating
temperature.

The outside temperature is not
in the required operating range.

The vehicle is in any gear other
than D (Drive).

Tow/Haul Mode or other driver
modes have been selected.

The vehicle is on a steep hill or
grade.

The driver door has been
opened or the driver seat belt
has been unbuckled.

The hood has been opened.


The Auto Stop has reached the
maximum allowed time.

Check to see if some bum helped themself to your new battery when it was in for the oil change.  It's been known to happen.

I got the same problem. I do like this feature but it stop working now.  I know it will disable when the outside temperature too low. But now Its about 35- 45f. So I wondering what is going on with my new Silverado 1500 2019

I don't care much for it but it seems to be random. I noticed it doesn't do that a couple minutes after starting the car. Sometimes I don't drive it for weeks and notice it takes longer for the autostop to kick in. I am assuming it needs to engine to feed the battery up. It's just a guess, I don't know. I don't drive it much anymore, probably 3,000 miles a year. It is no longer used at the ranch.

I have a new 2019 Sierra that the Auto Stop did not work after the first 500 miles. I have had it in the shop 4 separate times and the GM techs cannot figure it out.  Each time GM resets it and it works for 300 miles or less then stops working again. Now this is strange as we got 6” of snow and the first time I put the truck in 4x4 I noticed the Auto Stop started working after I shifted back to 2 wheel drive. Truck has 16,000 miles and I will let the dealer know that it is working now but hopefully it is not a problem in the future.

Same here after my first oil change along with the 2 recalls all done in one appointment, it stopped working for me. It’s hovering around -5C or so here but don’t now if that’s the threshold. 
 

Update:  So after a two days, Stop/Start is working again.  Even in around -12C feels like -20C according to local weather reports.

This is not very scientific, but I've noticed this happening lately too. I'm in North Florida (Southern border of GA, a few hard freezes a year, some frost, etc) and since it's been cooler it hasn't seemed to auto stop. Again, not scientific, but that's what I've been noticing.

I only have around 150 miles so far but the autostop feature on this 2019 6.2 10spd is a lot more noticeable than in my 2009 Tahoe Hybrid with 217k miles on it. I will have to research how they are restarting the engine in these newer products but whatever it is, it is not nearly as smooth as the Hybrid Tahoe from 10 yrs ago.

It uses the starter in a traditional manner.  Didn't the hybrid use the starter as a motor to move the vehicle and get it going?

The GM TwoMode Hybrids from a few years back utilize 2 electric motors inside the special 2ML70 transmission and use a  dampener in place of the torque converter, it does not have a "starter' in the conventional sense the electric motor inside the transmission spins the engine (aka ICE) through the dampener to start it. The transitions are smooth as silk, really some awesome technology. It was just too expensive for GM to manufacture I guess. 

I needed a 4x4 for work and something that I did not have to worry about getting scratched/dented and that was CHEAP to buy. At $6,600.00 this Tahoe fits the bill perfectly and is really a fun truck to drive. I have put 23k miles on it in a year and it has performed well for a "Beater Ride"  

I think you are correct on the new GM trucks they seem to be utilizing the regular starter which creates a noticeable shake. i may just turn the silly AutoStop thing off I don't think that I will be able to tolerate it.

i live in upstate NY and yes it wont engage if your truck is still cold as hell and the heater is cranking, particularly if you're one of those guys who cranks his thermo to high. It's a thermostat people. Treat it like your house and set it at your desired temp (68-73) and leave it. It'll heat and cool as fast as it can and then calm down.

 

anyhow, It usually takes a good 5-10 minutes before it's happy and then will kick off at a stoplight.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
