12696313 outwardly appears the same as 12669488. Maybe GM changed something internal. I do not know. I installed this part last night on my truck and braking is better now. But I still had the original faulty part from the 2014 model.

Interesting, thanks for taking the time to post the info.  Same manufacturer too.  I'm just hoping that GM makes things right, really a serious safety issue.  And a massive expense for those unable to do the repair themselves and don't fall within the constraints of the TSB

Yes. And all the old pumps will fail. Quote was almost $700 to fix. And if you have over the 70000 miles you will be paying. Mine started to fail around the 90000 mile mark.

75kish mine really started to give out.  Changed at 78500.

Don't think it will fix the root cause, but should help to avoid low speed accidents by allowing the ABS modulator to kick in sooner and provide more braking with the same pedal force when vacuum is too low.  At least that's what I think this recall SW is doing.

These pumps should be replaced with a recall. 

 

97k and just waiting for the next major mechanical failure....

After having the reprogramming done on my 17 Silverado, I do feel that my brakes feel much better. 

Whatever they did it makes a difference.

Do you know if they checked the vac pressure?  Only way it should feel different is if the pump is on the way out...

Anyone have battery problems after the update for the recall?  I took my 2016 Silverado in last Friday to have the Recall and a Radio Software update done.  Up until that point, I had never had a single issue with the battery or starting.  Over the weekend, the whole thing went to crap.  The radio keeps blinking in and out, and the truck won't start unless it is jumped.  I stopped at 3 Parts Places and had the battery tested, and all 3 said it tested OK, but needed charged.  I had also left it overnight on a 2 Amp Trickle Charge and this morning it still wouldn't start.  

 

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

So I had the reprogramming done on my 2017 Suburban on 9/21/2019 and had an incident happen last week where I was in a drive thru and applying pressure to the brake pedal the vehicle was still not stopping.  There was a vibration in the pedal and a noise noted as I had the window open.  I was able to get the vehicle out of the drive thru and to an open parking lot.  I turned the vehicle off and back on and that seem to fix the problem.  Took to the dealership and they claimed they had never seen this before.  No error codes and could not be reproduced.

 

So....bottom line.....the fix that GM issued did NOT fix the problem.  What a waste of time for everyone plus the safety issues that result for the driver, passengers and everyone else.

Had mine replaced with new style pump.  Unfortunately it still makes the same tick occasionally, though not quite as frequently.

What We Have Done:General Motors is providing you with the additional special coverage outlined in this letter for the condition described above in the interests of customer satisfaction. If this condition occurs on your 2014 – 2018 model year GM vehicle within 10 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 150,000 miles (240,000 km), whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge. Diagnosis or repair for conditions other than the condition described above is not covered under this special coverage program. If you were previously notified regarding this condition, please note that we have expanded the coverage.

Reimbursement:If you have already paid for repairs for the condition described in this letter, please complete the enclosed reimbursement form and present it to your dealer with all required documents. There is a recall to reprogram the abs module:

"Dealers will reprogram the electronic brake control module with a new calibration that will improve how the system utilizes the hydraulic brake boost assist function when vacuum assist is depleted."

There is also a special warranty coverage on the mechanical vacuum pump for the brake booster, 10 years 150,000 miles

    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far.
