It was dark when I got home today so I tried it an at least with my vehicle, a 2018 Silverado, the cargo light will come on while the truck is in reverse.  Frankly, it doesn’t help at all.  The brakes lights are brighter and since when I’m backing up I’m basically riding the brake, they over take any benefit from the cargo light.  Even without the break lights on, the cargo light doesn’t make any difference.  I could tell when it was on , but it was more noticeable that it increased the light in terms of distance from the rear of the truck.  It didn’t improve the view through the back up camera in terms of greater brightness.  I’ll pass on this mod.

Out of curiosity will the fog light one keep them on while running the high beams? I wouldn't mind having 3 pairs of LEDs on at the same time.

Can confirm the 2018 Sierra also will drive with the cargo light on, both forward and reverse. The only noticeable difference I could see was the outer edge was a little brighter, didn't help any in my opinion.

FYI in doing this mod I stumbled upon the fact that if you do it w/o a diode, and just use a piece of wire here the signal goes both ways and your cargo lamps switch becomes a “rear camera anytime” switch. [emoji1360][emoji1360]

Correct. Once you turn your highs on the fogs will turn on automatically with a diode.

Yep. And automatically have them come on when your headlights are on.

Definitely gonna order some diodes. I'm also curious about the wire jumper for the cargo light switch back-up camera. Just a little concerned about any potential quirks.

I have an aftermarket 3rd brake light so it has bright LEDs for the cargo light. Will definitely help with being able to see through my tinted windows backing up at night. I replaced my Sylvania led back up lights with some 1000+ lumen ones from Amazon and it's definitely an improvement, but more is better.

Yup. I also changed all 4 white bulbs to LEDs on mine thinking the cargo light would help. It does nothing. I ended up mounting some KC cyclone lights inside the rear bumper step cavity and tied the wiring into the cargo switch, so now I can have bright back-up lights that come on only in P or R when I flip the switch.

I have some info/pics in another thread if anybody is interested.

Here ya go. Its a long thread. Go to page 11, or the posts on Jan 7, 2019 to see my finished product.

I bought the clear cyclone LED lights from KC.

Others went with a ridgid surface mount light, but i don't like how deep those are and the wires go straight out the back. But they do work as well.
