Growing up in south Georgia, anything more than a bowie knife and a pit bull was unacceptable boar hunting behavior.

Nothing like the sound a bay dog followed by the thump of a catch dog.  Its been too long.......

People don’t seem to have any idea how big these pigs get in Texas. There’s cases of them gathering on our freeways and causing deadly wrecks. It’s more than a sport in lots of areas here. Some areas are over run. They get up to several hundred lbs. There was a time people thought it was cute to have pet pig. They get tired of them and let them go into the woods. It’s a real problem in some area’s here. Dogs would make a good lunch for these pigs. As well as a man with anything but a large gun.

Look up YouTube videos, hogs will kill and eat baby deer. Woman in the outskirts of Houston was mauled to death by a group of them and they were only about 100#’s. I run a LWRC 308, always carry at least 100rds with me as I’ve wasted 8 in one shooting and they were all about 100#’s. There’s a couple really big ones our game cams caught, looked to be 300#’s and they’re very elusive. I built this stand specifically for waiting out those two big ones as we’ve got rattle snakes and copperheads feeding out at night but I’m waiting for my new replacement thermal to come in, only have light until approximately 8-8:30pm and then I’ll pack up. I’ll see what comes out tonight. In addition to the 4wheelers which are loud, I love my trusty 18, 6.2, gets me everywhere I need to go and quietly lol

I’ve seen them on pipelines and utilities ROWs. They’ll chase and circle their prey. I’ve seen their prints circled around dead carcasses. There’re pretty smart and deadly. It’s funny some of the comments, they have known idea. Deadly creatures.

Lol, you’re absolutely correct, i just keep my thoughts to myself. I’ve shot a 230# hog on the property before with my Barrett 50cal, instant drop, cut it and left it for nature to do its thing, checked on it a few days later, it was shredded, game cam caught predators and even hogs near it. Best thing about this is, I get to try out new weapon systems and calibers, how many get to have the chance to have this much fun? I’m all about eradicating them, ZERO interest in eating them. Anyway, sorry about going off topic, I’ll leave y’all to your decisions, decisions, decisions but for me, as far as GM, it’s the 6.2 or nothing. [emoji112] [emoji112]

@newdude

to me it is worth it, but after driving my stepdads new T1 5.3L with the new 10spd. I can say I would buy a 5.3L again if no 6.2L were available and the truck had everything I needed. It really impressed me and according to car and driver it’s a full second quicker than the old K2 with the 8 spd.  6.1 secs vs 7.2 secs
the old 6 spd clocked off a 6.7 secs. Again the 8 spd killed the trucks. And if you lift it and add bigger tires it’s only going to slow it’s performance down even more.  Not for me and 95% of lifted trucks never see hard off roading the the others who do take them off road, the factory height could go just as far as they do. It’s more for show than go!  Which is just fine because it’s their money and choice. Just not my preference.

btw....  who says you can’t drag race a truck? There is something cool about a fast truck that can also haul your family and the boat to the lake house. ??

You can but it takes so much more to make a brick go fast. Just look at the trap speeds of the Grand Cherokee hellcat. These trucks aren't really "fast" if a 4 cylinder mid size family sedan is neck and neck with you. The truck has some spunk, but fast it is not. Now you can always mod them with forced induction but stock or an intake and exhaust it isn't anywhere near what a car guy would call fast. I bought my truck to work, tow/haul and leave the pavement, I have a different car for when I want to go fast I just want my truck to be reliable.

So a truck that magazine companies are driving that goes from 0-60 in 5.3 secs isn't fast??  OK, last time I checked that is pretty fast for a 5800lb sled.

Can your sports car or 4 cylinder family sedan pull a boat? ya think not. YOU'RE totally missing the point!!!

And yes, if I wanted a 4 sec or under car, i would and will buy a convertible camaro. I just have other NEEDS right now, instead of wants

LOL!! a trackhawk not fast?

Here is what Motor Trend has

0-60 in 3.3 secs

"To continue that conversation, in the quarter-mile test, the Trackhawk runs 11.7 seconds at 116.2 mph. Did you ever think we'd see the day when a production SUV runs the quarter in the 11s? That's just crazy! Or should I say ludicrous, as the Model X when in Ludicrous mode also runs an 11.7-second quarter mile. However, the Trackhawk's trap speed is 0.2 mph higher than the Model X's, so Jeep beats Tesla in a drag race. What a world. Speaking of 11s, the 600-horsepower Bentayga runs 11.9 seconds at 117.1 mph. Some other fast SUVs for you to consider: the X6 M, but that slowpoke took 12.1 seconds at 114.3 mph. The quickest we've ever seen a four-door Hellcat run is 11.8 seconds at 124.3 mph. Meaning the Jeep is quicker, but the extra 900 pounds of lard and AWD hardware slows it down in terms of velocity, hence the 8-mph gap at the end of 1,320 feet. The quickest two-door Hellcat ties the Trackhawk at 11.7 seconds, but its trap is higher still at 125.4 mph.  The Challenger Hellcat just happens to weigh 999 pounds less than the Trackhawk. (That's 666 if you invert—coincidence or conspiracy?) Just to further impress upon you how quick this Jeep is, the Corvette Grand Sport hits 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 12.2 at 116.1 mph. Moreover, the 650-hp Camaro ZL1 with the 10-speed auto hits 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds at 125.0. This Jeep is straight-line legit."

You are purely lost man, and you sound rather foolish with your statement, and whatever you own, I BET it can't beat this Trackhawk!

Glad I have my 6.2 I'm not expecting it to be racing Challengers and Camaros, but it does what I need and is reasonably quick.

I felt my old 5.3 was adequate, but not much else. The 8 speed didn't help either.

To get this thread back on track...I'm loving the 5.3 in my LT TB. Plenty of grunt and go. I've owned several V6 trucks and cars (2 Tacomas, an EcoBoost, and several cars) but this is the first V8 American Muscle I've ever owned and it feels good! I can feel the freedom running through my veins when I stomp the gas (but not too hard, still breaking in the engine).

Seriously though, I couldn't justify the 6.2 when it doesn't really do more for me in terms of capability. Can't tow more and isn't that much quicker and takes premium gas. Not that premium gas was a barrier as I put it in my Lexus even though it doesn't require it. I just didn't see what the 6.2 got me other than bragging rights with the decal. I'm a late-40's, fat, gray-haired dude, I don't need to be having pissing battles at the stoplights anymore. Now I'll also add that I was only interested in the Trail Boss. I know the 6.2 in a max-tow configuration beats the 5.3 by anywhere from 700-800 lbs. But in the Trail Boss configuration, the 6.2 actually tows less.

Congratulations, that’s just awesome that you’re enjoying your 5.3, it’s an excellent platform and as you’ve already pointed out, there was no need for the extra horsepower and torque. The new T1’s are a bit lighter therefore better weight torque horsepower ratio. But, that said, the 6.2 isn’t as you’ve described, there have been numerous tests performed between the two and the 6.2 always came out with flying colors.

For anyone on the border line between the two, here’s a video on both, towing experiences on the 5.3 versus 6.2
