Life is full of regrets, your truck does not need to be one of them, you can control what you do with it.

If you do not trust the truck , get rid of it, or keep it and try not to worry about what could go wrong.

You still have the bulk of your warranty left, use it if you need to.

You have to read between the lines on these forums, some complaints are very valid, others are just unrealistic, just something to complain about.

Don't let these forums make you think twice on your decision about your truck. I have had mine for 10 months and I love it and had 0 issues with it. You will see a lot of people complain about the dumbest things and they will jump on someone else's problem saying they have the same problem also and they don't, people like to bash for no reason and say things that are not true. Take note on here when someone had a issue you will see posts saying "yeah same thing happened to me" and such and they come in waves you cant believe half the stuff on these forums. Iam not saying people that post are not having problems and its made up its just people will jump on the wagon and post the same issue just for the hell of it.

Hey there, I get what ur saying and ur probably right. I broke my own moto by saying I would never buy a first year of anything. Probably rushed this purchase as I needed a truck, but whatever it’s done. And yes, every manufacturer will have its share of issues. As for maintenance, I am very diligent on fluid changes and anything the truck needs. I plan on adding a 2” level with some 285/60-20 Duratracs or KO2’s. What is this AFM u speak of?

It's Active Fuel Management but they changed it for 2019 I guess so can't turn it off. It basically cuts down to 4 cylinder when you're not driving under load. You're fine, just do your fluids and take it to dealer for issues.

Love the truck itself, aside from the seats, but I've had it two months and is practically at the dealer at least once every other week for recalls, infotainment issues and now I have to take it back because lane keep assist and collision warnings will not come on any more.

Starting to regret my purchase. Hopefully after this next trip that will be it. If it can stay problem free for a while I would be happy with it.

If you’re already having serious doubts and don’t even know what AFM is, I respectfully suggest running for your life; far far away from a ‘19 or ‘20 GM truck.

DOD/AFM/DFM/whatever-they’re-gonna-call-it-next-year is GM’s attempt to meet the government fuel economy standards. In the last 2 generations of GM light trucks, AFM turned a V-8 engine into a 4-cylinder under light throttle applications, supposedly to save 7% on fuel mileage. All it really accomplished was a jerking sensation when it kicked in and out, rougher shifting, and a bad exhaust note. It was also widely known for excessive oil usage and other mechanical problems.

GM hasn’t gotten the bugs worked out of the system (since 2005!) and most of the dealers don’t have a clue how to fix it, so they just sandbag you until your truck is off of warranty, then either try to get you into a new truck, or finally offer to tear into it, but for a few thousand of your hard-earned dollars, throwing parts at it in a vain attempt at a permanent fix. There are people on this website who have had their engine rebuilt with new AFM lifters, only to have those parts fail, too.

They keep changing the name, but no matter what they call it, it’s an over-complicated, poorly-engineered system built with parts from the lowest bidder, and assembled with indifferent tolerances. In an effort to mask the AFM problems on the trucks, GM has increased the oil capacity to 8 quarts, mandated the use of Dexos-rated synthetic motor oil, and decreased the oil change interval back to 5000 miles, and yet many, many problems persist.

The latest version of DFM shuts all the way down to 2-cylinders when it feels like it. It can run on 2-3-4-5-6-7-8 cylinders at any given time. So some cylinders can get more wear than others. There is no way to turn it off. This from a company that seemingly has forgotten how to glue a back window these new-model trucks. And the service techs that couldn’t pass high school don’t have a clue how to fix these complicated new systems. GM keeps making problematic systems even more complicated!

So far I don’t have any regrets but I do notice that every time I pass a Ram Rebel I can’t look away. They are also very impressive trucks and the only reason I bought the LT Trail Boss was the lower price. I’ve always been a GM guy but the 19+ Rebel is very nice too.

This right here is the issue, mostly everyone comes to the forums to find answers to issues (at first) so most of what you're going to read is going to be issues.

There are millions of owners out there who aren't having any issues. Drive it, use it and if something happens just get it fixed under warranty. No need to dwell over things.

I searched out this forum after I had problems with my new truck. I didn't come here to read about potential problems. So yes, I am very disappointed, frustrated, and flat out pissed that my truck crashes and reboots more often than a Windows 95 computer! The brake software bugs are totally unacceptable, and they need to start taking software development more serious. This forum did save me on that one by the way. I brought it in for the seat belt recall and told the dealership NOT to do the brake recall, after seeing comments on this forum.

I'd be surprised if GM shipped a million of these new pickups.

I'd also imagine most people don't know how to find these forums or don't use the buggiest features. I was thrilled to see the updates for Infotainment and Nav last Wednesday. It seemed the bugs might've been fixed, but after a couple of days, the crashing is back!

HEY GM, how about logging all these bugs in the computer, adding a log screen so the owners can view the errors that are logged, then allow them to be uploaded via the onstar or wifi connection, and display a confirmation message so we know the reports go somewhere other than the dead-bit-bucket! AND, for the love of god, STOP SENDING US TO THE DEALERSHIP! You already know the problems are caused by crappy software and dealerships can't do a damn thing about it! Even better, assign ticket numbers to every report that gets uploaded and send us monthly status reports on progress of fixing this crap.

Don't take this the wrong way but owning a truck that has the brakes randomly stop working out of no where is quite a huge concern. People aren't making this stuff up. Show me where you think people are making up issues on this forums.

The latest articles about this recent brake issue states that thousands are having this issue. Its not just isolated to the people that post here. Just like happy customers wont post how happy they are. Many people having issues don't post about it. It goes both ways.

People are going to chime in if they have the same issues as some one. Sorry but many of these problems are major issues and time and time again GM has shown a major lack of concern for its customers from denying fixes to never calling upset people back.

Maybe when and if your brakes stop working with your children in the car you may change your tune on here.

Very true there is so many issues, gotta remember alot of people dont post on forums we see alot older folks at the dealerships that dont use email.

I really like my 19 LTZ Z71. I can deal with most of the recalls/issues so far. Most of these are normal for vehicles.

However, the window leak issue has been very stressful and concerning.

I'll never buy another first year vehicle as I don't want to be a beta tester ever again.

Still love driving this truck though.

7500 miles so far. No regrets.

Sounds like there is something you don't like about the truck...what is it?

Did I say anything in my reply about the brake issue? No I didn't. Iam talking about in general that people like to bash a product because they hate it or regret there purchase that's why I say don't believe everything you read on the net and use it for your own decision. You could start a thread saying my wiper blades flew off my truck going down the road its not going to happen now but I bet someone will respond "yeah same thing happened to me" you get what iam saying now?

Yea I agree. I must say, I've been having my RST since last March and have no regrets or complaints. I read posts about so many issues from rear window leaks, water in the floor board channels, electrical, brakes, key fobs, remote starting, hvac, blank screens, engine lights, and you name it. Knock on wood I haven't any problems. I had a few recalls done but nothing that was causing any problems. I have no regrets. I feel for those having issues after paying so much for a truck. What gets me is when someone brings a problem in and the service dept. says "it's normal" or "they all do that". Total BS...
