Regrets?

Hey all, new to the forum..somewhat. I had a 15 Sierra dbl cab long bed and recently lost it due to a write off. Loved that truck. I purchased a 19 Sierra slt premium crew with 14k on it.  I’ve had it just over a week now and still find it hard to get used to. After reading all the issues posted here, I’m beginning to think I made a wrong decision on this. Anyone else feel this way?

Well it’s a first year platform with plenty of first year issues. I ALREADY have had my 2019 Silverado repurchased for an UN repairable noise in the 4WD drive case. There should be nothing to worry about because GM should fix this crap under warranty but frankly they don’t seem to care and are VERY slow to respond at getting real fixes into place. GM seems to like the band Aid approach when something goes wrong now. Hopefully you will have less issues than I did.

This right here is the issue, mostly everyone comes to the forums to find answers to issues (at first) so most of what you're going to read is going to be issues.

There are millions of owners out there who aren't having any issues. Drive it, use it and if something happens just get it fixed under warranty. No need to dwell over things.

You cannot find a truck, from any brand that doesn't have issues.

Do some mods and maintenance to prevent issues down the road such as catch can, transmission oil change before 60k, fluid changes before they are due and you should be fine.

Turn off AFM if you want, most people do to stay in V8 mode all the time and avoid issues with lifters on those cylinders.

No, no regrets at all. I knew what I wanted, I did my research and I bought it. I've had my 19 for almost eight months now, no issues to report. That said, I do stay abreast of the common issues people are having and make sure to keep my eye on them. For instance, I check my rear window every time I wash the truck or drive it in the rain.

Forums are full of complaints, no matter the brand. Don't let them make you regret your purchase. You've got a sweet ride there - drive it, take care of it and enjoy it!

I’ve had most of the serious problems people have posted about, and I still don’t regret my 19.

It’s not been everything it could be, and my mind is made up to trade in on the refresh. But it’s just a great looking, and great driving truck compared to my 2016. I would never go back.

Most people? I bet less than 2% of the owners of trucks with DoD turn it off or run in V8 mode all the time. Of the 98% I bet maybe 2% may have an issue, spread over maybe a million vehicles a year that is an awfully low percentage to be turning off a fuel saving feature that may or may not actually stop the lifter issue from happening (the D0d lifters are still in there...).

I agree though with your first part, there are millions of them out there and most have no or very minor issues, forums are just here to create mountains out of mole hills and fill people minds with useless information. Drive it and enjoy it OP, warranty is there for a reason if needed be. For what it's worth, my '14 is a first year build and has been completely reliable. Only time it has gone in was for a rear spring noise and dash rattle. Other than that nothing has broken or caused issues in 70k miles and multiple remote back country trips off road.

OK Some people lol
Most who want to turn it off do so to stay v8 all the time.
My truck runs perfect in v8 mode. Runs crappy in v4 mode, hunts for gears and I actually get same, sometimes 1mpg better which isn't worth it for me to keep it on.

The lifters are there but without the oil pressure to keep them collapsed, they work all the time vs being out of order when in v4 mode. Theoritacally, that should keep the lifters from sticking but who knows.

Doesn’t matter, no way to turn off DFM save for driving in L7 or L9, or spending 2-3k to void your warranty on a tune.

Can’t really take the trouble free nature of the 2014-2018 trucks with much more than a grain of salt given the amount of changes. New cylinder deactivation, new or revised transmissions, new rear window that likes to leak, new brake by wire system, infotainment, etc.

Doesn’t mean you have to sit around and worry about it though. Nothing will kill your new truck buzz faster than listening to people here complaining (many times justified, but still)...

Oh I didn't know they changed that for 2019. Well, then ignore my AFM comments lol

I wish I bought a different truck, or just kept my Canyon. In one year of ownership my Sierra has been in the service bay for going on 7 weeks total. From engine failure to loss of brakes. Worst new vehicle I've ever owned.

Do you fee that way just because of this forum, or because you’re actually having issues with your truck? Like others have said, the online communities (this one included) represent a small percentage of owners and naturally attract those who have issues. You already purchased the truck right? So why not just enjoy it, and don’t stress about possible issues unless you actually experience any??

No one posts on this forum that they simply love to get in their truck everyday and just drive without a care, they just do it.

Enjoy your new ride, if something happens so that the truck is no longer functional then it's time to worry.

    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
