My truck uses 1 quart of oil every 2000 miles.   Gm has a service bulletin saying that ms acceptable.   Makes no sense to me got a new truck and got add oil twice in between oil changes...   has anyone else had this problem and what can I do about it?

It's a 2019

Ironic how you bring this up. A good friend of mine has a 2019 LT. I went with him get it. Beautiful nice truck. We were at a super bowl party tonight and he told me he was thinking of going trade it in and I asked why? He said it was using a qt. every 2000 miles. Dealer gave him a BS story and showed him a bulletin saying that was acceptable and that's why they're 8 qts. Really??? Naturally GM would say that. It's easier to say that to cover their butts so they don't have to fork out $$$$$$$$ for engines. Funny how things are always "normal".

Unfortunately these new engines use technology that is hard on engines and oil.  Active Fuel Management, Dynamic Fuel Management, start stop, variable vavle timings, turbo charging, ecoboost etc. All these new technologies put a lot of stress on the oil.   Not all oils are up to the task and that's why GM and other oem's have been pushing for better oil specifications to be developed.  Yet there are a lot of oil companies who continue to market "good enough" products and customers who refuse to spend the money continue to buy these "good enough" products for their expensive vehicles/engines. They think frequent oil changes are cheap insurance but in reality, cheap oil is the problem.

Why do you think some oils are cheaper? Where do you think they cut the corners? Did they use cheaper oil base stocks and additive packages? Less highly trained engineers? Did they cut back on quality control? How can they afford to spends millions of $$ on advertising and still make money if they claim their oil is best?

Ya which engine specifically? My 5.3 has 8k miles and so far there has been no oil consumption.

I previously owned an older 5.3 so i’ve been keeping an eye on it periodically.

I’ve had two oil burners from stock vehicles. 94 Z-28, 99 F-150 Ford. The Ford I added a vortec S/C at 20 K miles. Both needed a qt every 2500 miles. Both were called within specs. The Z28 was the wife’s car for 60K miles, my son’s first car until 100K and my toy for 30K. Other than new cat’s and transmission mounts it was a reliable car. The truck went 100K miles in 2 years no issues and both stayed at the same oil usage. The Z had Amsoil 20-50 oil, the truck had Amsoil at required viscosity. The Z once a year. The truck because of engine special needs ( hydraulic chain tensioners) more often.

Typically, cheaper oil has a faster burn off rate. Change your engine oil to Amsoil Signature Series and see if that helps.

One qt/2K miles can't be normal..........my '19 5.3 doesn't lose any oil between 3-4K changes using Mobil1......neither did my '16

Neither my 18 6.2 but my neighbor used to burn oil and stopped once he started using the Signature Series, he’s since sold his truck and bought a Raptor lol

Some oil burn off isn't out of the norm and it isn't just GM. BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, Porsche all have acceptable oil consumption levels, it is a liquid in a hot engine and even the best oils such as Super Tech cannot strive off oil burn off when finding a way past mechanical parts. If it falls in their acceptable levels there won't be much you can do other than check it and top it off, could be any number of things causing it. The LS1 one of the most revered and reliable performance engines was known for oil consumption and it would still last 100's of thousands of  miles while getting beat on and many time sprayed or boosted. I would no worry about it and just check it.

For what it is worth I had a coworker that had excessive oil consumption with Amsoil, when he switched to Liberty Gold the consumption stopped. Different engines can like different oils...

It seems my truck likes Castrol Magnatec better than Quaker State.

Since switching oil use has diminshed.

It wasn't a lot, 8 to 12 ounces per 3 K miles but it is less.

I say that is Total BS!!!! My new 2020 5.3 TB does not use any oil so far... Of course I only have 4400 miles on it.... Keeping my fingers crossed.... The Audi is going.....
