2019 6.2 bad engine.....

I came here with a problem. Looking for answers. None have been found on here. I am now updating the form in hopes it shows people that it’s possible to get out of a vehicle that’s had issues. U might have a different opinion and that’s ok. However me personally. When someone is spending 50,60,70 thousand dollars on a vehicle. That vehicle should not have many issues. And a motor! The heart of a vehicle should not have to be replaced at 12 thousand miles...... plain and simple. And if a dealer or company doesn’t understand that a 20 year old spending that kinda money; has much more money to spend throughout the years.  not to offer some kind of escape or relief? Then that company should lose that persons business?

She bought a new car because it’s untouched brand new and should not have to use a warranty at 12 thousand miles. If she wanted junk With used parts she would have bought a used or a crashed vehicle... but that’s just our opinion. I wouldn’t buy an apple with a bite out of it. But some people are just extremely loyal. I’m not saying your wrong to be that way. However I also expect quality when it comes to that kinda money? Sorry if this particular forum upsets you.

If I have read this correctly, I understand your sister leased this vehicle.  If this is so, simply return the vehicle at the end of the lease c/w with paperwork supporting her efforts to fix the oil consumption issue.  Otherwise, keep with the consumption tests and welcome the eventual repair.  I know it is stressful but jump through the hoops, be patient and be happy if they offer an engine repair/replacement.  I had a very similar experience with my 09 Sierra.  My persistence and patience paid off and that truck turned out great.  I too was nervous about major engine repair on a new vehicle, but they did a flawless job with zero problems, oil consumption or any other ramifications for the next 100k miles when I traded in on another Sierra!  BTW The bad thing about being 21 is insurance rates and car rental problems.  The good thing about being 21, is you are 21!

All manufacturers have some kind of issues with their vehicles NONE are perfect.. sierras and silverados are good trucks. In this case I agree she has one of the defective ones and it sucks . I traded in my 2016 LT with 75k miles with not a single issue.. I’m sorry you are having problems with your 2019.. once they work out the bugs under warranty everything will be fine.. GMC Sierra is a beautiful truck I almost bought one but went with the trail boss instead because GMC dealer by me was playing games
Yes some kind of problems are to be expected, but in my case, and for a lot of people, they are constant and multiple problems. I took my truck to the dealer 7 times in 3 months, that is ridiculous and unacceptable. I'm having other issues now and will be making another trip back when some of this quarantining eases up.

No new car should have so many different problems, it shows problems in design and quality control and it isn't just a small number of people, it's a lot of people having them. They had to do a recall for almost a million trucks because the brakes could fail. How does a car company that is over 100 years old have problems making brakes work?

People accepting problems like this are the reason why the manufacturers get away with such horrible quality control. A lemon is one thing, but constant problems and failures in a lot of different areas is just poor quality.

Nothing has changed on this since 2010.  With assistance from GM corporate, the GM dealers drag their feet and play games (such as not letting you watch, not recognizing the oil usage, and then way overfilling it before you leave) on the "excessive oil consumption tests" until it is off of warranty.  Then they want you to pay thousands to rebuild your engine, which may or may not fix the excessive oil consumption, and may or may not cause other problems, depending on what service tech does the rebuild.  GM will not ever simply let you trade even-up for a comparable new truck on the lot, nor will they ever just drop in a new engine for you.  You need to legally document this excessive usage on your own and pursue it under your state's Lemon Law, or just trade for another truck at another dealer, which would let GM off the hook.  There's a reason they switched to 8 quart oilpans a few years back, folks.  Just sayin'.

I monitored my oil consumption tests closely and made sure the oil was only topped up to the full line during the test.  .  When it came time for the major work, I expressed my concern to the service manager.  In response to my concerns, he introduced me to the technician who would be performing the surgery.  After a few minutes, I was completely at ease with the work to be done.  I owned a '00 Silverado for 9 trouble free years prior to this experience.  My '09 Sierra was excellent after the fix and my '15  Sierra continues to be virtually flawless since new. Each of my past three GM pickups were purchased at different dealerships and all treated me fairly and with respect.  Employees are doing their jobs and do not look for opportunities to trick you out of a covered repair.

How do 19-20 year old have $50-60,000 to blow a truck already?

Where did I go wrong with my high school jobs?

I knew I shoulda been a pimp or something.

We actually know the technician. We met a few times before. He’s a great tech. However if you ask a gm tech how they would feel if they bought a brand new truck and it needed a motor... the response is fairly similar to mine. It’s just wrong.

Save every penny! Lol I actually helped her build her first truck. A 1986 Chevy dually. She sold for a little chunk and then wanted to buy a house. However she was only 18 and y’all know how hard it is with the credit situation. So she bought this truck and other items to build credit in hopes the quick pay off would bring it up.

She’s a smart girl! But now that she’s ready for a house and interest rates are low.(with the covid)

the trucks turning into a giant nightmare:(.

Your daughter sounds like one of my sons!  His salary surpassed mine by the time he was 21!  Any tech or gear head will tell you that it is "wrong" for a new domestic vehicle to consume large amounts of oil between service intervals.  When I had the problem, it was the first time in decades that I had to top off my engine oil between service intervals.  A decade of no "top-offs" has almost passed since that experience.   Your tech will also tell you that it will be "right" when it is fixed.  Your sister's truck runs fine now and no need for it to be a nightmare experience. Recommend that she follows the required steps, be persistent and be polite.   I might also suggest allowing her to deal with the matter. I appreciate the role of a big brother but it sounds like your sister can handle herself.    I've owned several new vehicles of different brands. (I'm not rich, just old!) I am actually surprised, considering all of the parts, that most don't require major repair.  I can  say that most new cars of all brands come from the factory requiring a cosmetic tweak or two.  A lot of humans and robots have touched our vehicles prior to delivery!

You are tracking that the engines are new that they replace it with right. If they are doing core swaps (which I doubt at this time) they are remanufactured by the team that build new motors for Chevy Performance. Not just some random shop.

to be completely Fair GM knew they were going to use hydro boost and a lot of people with the 2500 and 3500 continued to complain about not being able to brake and steer at the same time.

even though in those situations you probably don't want to be braking and steering at the same time.....

So GM went with zf's system. it's electric which makes sense since they already knew they were going to use electric steering why have a power steering pump just for the brakes, and it allows much faster response time that you're going to get out of a hydroboost ABS system.

Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone has had issues with the 6.2? My sister 2019 of 6 months and 12,000 miles drinks oil! 20oz every 500 miles...

she is only 19 so they won’t give her a rental when she takes it in for service either and it’s absolutely Ridiculous that she spent all this money on an ltz but they do nothing for her!

I came here in hopes that someone knows of an issue with 6.2’s?

also if anyone knows how we could ask gm to put us in a different vehicle? That would very helpful! This is the second vehicle from Chevy that has had motor issues off the line! The first was a 2015 Malibu that’s now on the 4th engine at only 80k..... we honestly just don’t want to have a brand new truck with a used engine at only 12 k... that’s a little absurd don’t you think?

The same time they went to 5w20 oil.  Extra capacity is needed for proper cooling of the thinner oils.  It's not a giant conspiracy.  Sorry to disappoint you.

I have had 7 Chevy trucks, 1500's, 2500's, gas and diesel is the last 12 years.  Never more than a DEF level reset, squeak in the dash or a TCM flash.  No oil consumption issues on the '12 or '14 5.3's with AFM.

No "chevy shake".  No 8 speed trans problems.  Just good dependable trucks.
