For those of you that have been following Donstar's saga of downsizing and are interested and have access to RFD TV, they have a program on tonight 10 pm EST, 7 pm PST, Rural America Live, where they address the downsizing issue and offer tips. As for myself, I'm a dyed in the wool procrastinator, I have quit accumulating things tho, baby steps you know.

I learned to downsize by losing a career that paid well, divorce because she didn't like a poorer person for a husband, and then waiting for VA to help.....that took a long time....LOL  I don't quit though and have gone back to growing up tight on the farm as a teen. Spending less and having less toys = less stress for me.  Its a win win.

I was fortunate being the oldest watching my father struggle to build a business. Good times and bad we’re tied to the weather and political ideology. Learning to save during good times for the slow times is the key to survival. My wife an army brat also the oldest learned to do more with less. My wife is the queen of garage sales and thrift shops. I love cars. To fill my lust I had built and rebuild buy and sell to satisfy my addiction. Downsizing to us is a walk down a path to what is now our rent house. When the yard work and stairs become a burden. The kids can go through what we don’t move to the one story little house. And auction for the rest and the sale of the family home to follow. Or it all goes and assisted living follows. To be determined.

I hope everyone made some great memories over the holidays!  Christmastime conjures up the past and January tends to put me in future planning mode.  Over the holidays I reconnected with two past friends of my parents (90 & 99) and their longevity serves as great motivation to enjoy, potentially, another 20-30 years!  Me and my social circle are around 70.  Typically we're all thankful to have made it this far but our awareness of the limits to our future become much more pronounced.   Hanging around our middle aged children and neighbours makes us look and feel old.   The cure to feeling old is spending more time with much older people!   It is really hard to complain about your age related aches and pains to a pre centenarian!!

A great place to see older people enjoying life and having fun is a casino during the week. For very little money and a reasonable mind set a days enjoyment with your peers can be had. Another is going on a cruise. It’s even more fun in groups. In my many years of enjoying both, it’s hard to find a cheaper more comfortable time. My church has groups who have bridge games twice a week. And there’s bingo. People who find ways to let go and enjoy themselves can be rewarding to witness. I have my most fun watching people have fun.

The Christmas lights are down and strewn around the garage to be packed up and put in the crawl space!  Time to start getting into the spring mindset!   We've substantially reduced the need for staying home to maintain gardens etc.  However it is amazing how other commitments crop up.  Both of us are waiting for specialists appointments and  even our dog has a couple of out of town appointments in the near future!  Yesterday my wife and I found ourselves identifying obstacles rather than setting plans.   The saying, "Obstacles appear when you lose sight of you goal" came to mind early in the afternoon.   I flipped the discussion by identifying a goal by suggesting we purchase this $117K motorhome I see on Facebook and travel Canada and USA in the spring.   The fun was identifying ways we could make this happen rather than looking for ways to derail such bold planning.  We know that the sacrifices needed to achieve goals like this may exceed any gains but it is far more exciting to look at future possibilities than the other way of thinking!

We're making a concerted effort to keep the cupboards full as "covid" and "climate change", or whatever terms you prefer, remain threats.  We did a major shop at Costco a couple of days ago as the incoming storms were threatening. I was a little pissed off by those selfish individuals coughing and hacking while shopping. I feel bad for those who don't have the option of staying home when they are sick.  During the first years of Covid we'd make sure to check with neighbours for any needs when we were going shopping.   Now its normal for us to check with others before we head off to the store.  They do the same for us.   It is actually appreciated and respected by others when you wish to keep germs to yourself!

Before Covid it was common for people with the common cold to be out and about. It was normal. Getting a cold was a normal part of winter. As we see with China total isolation didn’t work. Herd immunity is usually what causes weak strains of once deadly viruses. Recognizing the most vulnerable for isolation and help while letting others lead normal lives. Will mitigate the effects of most viruses as herd immunity takes effect. Covid will probably never end likely being part of the cold season. A member of my family years ago had a cold while skiing in Colorado. Later had a heart attack at his mid 30s. The diagnosis was the cold attack his heart. He’s has a semi normal life with reduced heart function. I live a normal lifestyle had Covid once shortly after my first booster. My wife got it from me. She never got the shot. That’s been it. Everyone needs to find their comfort level without being chastised by others. If the shots and boosters work as claimed as well as masks. There shouldn’t be any worries.

I also got Covid after my first vaccine, It was like having a cold for a few days. Got it from my girlfriend who was in the hospital until they had a Covid outbreak and instead of locking down and quarantining the hospital discharged everyone they could spreading the virus through the community. Starting to notice some shortages at the grocery store, nothing alarming but makes me realize the supply chain issues are far from over. Just got over RSV, had it for 3 weeks, worse than Covid and no treatment  available. Could be the next epidemic?

AGREE with everything you wrote but this. We aren't experiencing a US and North American COVID collapse right now because we got vaccines in many arms. Natural immunity = over a million deaths in US.  Just friggin stupid. Most of them MAGA embracing misguided lost souls.

When it comes to history, science, or facts if we disagree Stan, I'm pretty sure I am on the right side of accuracy.  Pretty sure because my mind is open to change.

Some folks just can't grasp basic facts, some refuse to, some choose to. Most of the folks I have met on internet are getting facts from social media algorithms that are designed to cause disagreement.

Learning facts regardless of feelings is a first step to moving above the social media purposeful dis-info.

You never read my suggestion from

You won't but others might.  Reading further than a headline or social media prompted lead line is required to learn.

Being able to course correct on a trans oceanic flight is required for changing winds and weather. Doing the same regardless of our age and experience is required to live a truth informed factual life.  Thats hard so most don't until they are forced to course correct.  Death will force that change when it's too late.

It’s amazing after the destruction of the last 2 years, I don’t need to name them it’s everything. You continue to bash the Make America Great Generation. I pointed out the obvious and you bash MAGA, typical and sad.

MAGA tried to overthrow our constitution. Nough said. Then ruined anyplace in US for true conservatives to have a voice. You earned Brandon as a response then lied about losing. Covid just a part of all that. Go after the constitution I fought for and be called out.
