Shhh! DOn't tell anyone. I had Mobil 1 5w-20 laying around so I used that for my first oil change. The engine didn't blow up.

I usually use Amsoil and change every 5K. Will go to 0w-20 when I use up the 5w-20 I have left.

Kirkland actually has some of strickest guidelines for their products.....i do know they put them through a pretty severe test for most products and they have to be as good or better.....anything i have ever bought from Kirkland has been of good quality, and heck its probably mobil anyways, lol...….i would use it

 

if you change your oil when your suppose too you wont have a failure....ive never had one in almost 40 yrs of driving but if it makes you sleep better than buy that brand.....

 

just did mine other day at 2500 miles......Castor full synthetic (best deal) and yeah i will do all my own oil changes....for one i hate sitting around at dealer and two its bit less money and three i actually like doing it....after you have routine down its a 15 minute ordeal.....it would take me that long just to drive to the dealer

 

mostly its the time though but saving $70 on top of it doesn't hurt. lol

Super Tech Synthetic and Delco filters. Been using Super Tech in all my vehicles for the last 10 years or so. Previously ran Pennzoil, and was one of those guys that believed in name brand oils. I was opened up to the idea that I was throwing money away on the name brands by a friend who has been building engines for over 45 years now. He told me to look up and compare the different oils online and that I would see that the Super Tech oil, made by Warren, was just as good, and sometimes even better than the name brands. He was right, and I will say I have not had one issue, and will continue to use it. No need to throw money away just for a name.

I also like Wix, Bosch, and Napa Gold (Wix) oil filters. Can't go wrong with them either. Most oils today are all really good oils, the key is as always, good maintenance intervals. With the Super Tech oil, I change every 5-6k with no issues. Super Tech actually tests better than the Great Mobil 1 everyone seems to love. Never used Mobil 1, but I know it is good, just no need to pay the price for it. Looks like Kirkland is the same oil as Super Tech to me.

Also, my local Walmart sells the Super Tech Synthetic for $13.50 for 5 quart jug. Price makes a difference to me. Don't mind paying more and getting more, but in this case paying more is getting the same, or in some cases less. Why would you do that? I've seen comments over the years about if you can afford a 50-60k vehicle, why buy cheap oil? Why not, if it is as good or better than the expensive oil?

Why not try the oil and filter designed for the truck (ACDelco) for a spell and then send in an oil sample for analysis?

 

My own testing an analysis revealed ACDelco's oil to run better and cause less internal wear than regular Mobil One.  In addition, the K&N filter with the 1" nut on the bottom also proved superior to the M1 EP oil filter.

 

The numbers for Shell Gas Truck closely mirror ACDelco's oil.

For those that do like to run the AC-Delco Dexos synthetic, I'm sure you can pick it up cheaper through RockAuto than you can from your dealer. I picked up a couple of 5 quart jugs of the AC-Delco Dexos @ $19 ea. + $5 shipping = $24/5 quarts delivered to my door. That's a couple of dollars cheaper per 5 quarts than my local Wallys wants for M1 plus saves me a trip.

Exxon/Mobil is the supplier for AC-Delco.

I use Pennzoil Platinum with the Puralatior Boss filter change twice a year only have 36000kms on mine

I'm happy with most of the major brands of 15W40 oil (Full synthetic) and I use a NAPA Platinum filter (wix) and do 10,000 mile oil changes or twice a year on my Duramax.  Unless for some reason I beat the crap out of the thing with heavy towing/use and then it will be a 5000-7000 mile oil change.  But I am happy with 10,000 mile oil changes, and the oil life monitor seems to put me at about 5-10% left as I approach the 10,000 mile mark.  The GM OLM is one of the best in the industry.  I will also be sending in my oil for oil life analysis as well once a year.

After lots of research, I'm sold on the Amsoil ATF for my transfer case (non-auto trac) and the Amsoil gear oil for my front and rear diff.  Will be switching to that in about 10,000 miles.

Just an FYI but I have a few customers that use the AMSOIL OE line of oil and their vehicles take the PF63E.  They come in for oil changes every 5k miles. I got a case of 12 filters for $46 shipped from eBay.  Works out to be less than $5 a filter.

That is odd. I didn't spend all day on it but I can't find an SDS newer that 2015 or of the half dozen I did find one that stated the manufacture on it.  What section is it in?
