Are Silverado's/Seirra's reliable?

Hello everyone,,

I'm looking into getting a truck and wife wants me to get one of the trucks in the title. But I don't want to get a truck that is not reliable, resale value low percentage, or prone to break before I can get it to over 200k. This truck will be something mobdro kodi that I'll be keeping until it breaks and want it to last more than 200k.

Why would you come to a GM site and ask this question?

 

Don't buy a 5.7L tundra, i believe the 4.8L tundra is more reliable.

Very solid. And i have had Toyota’s, Jeeps, Nissans and Fords. I have lost cam phasers, rear end ring gear and a front half shaft on Toyotas. I have pretty much decided GM (Yukon and SLT) is the best lowest cost operation (replacements are cheap) and Ford the weakest. My Toyota’s - never had parts in stock. Ever. Waited forever for the ring gear and pinion in my Toyota. Everybody has an opinion, though.. I provide some examples.. that have helped me form mine. And neither of my Toyotas got mpg at all.

I have a 2018 Sierra with 5.3L gas engine, 6 speed trans.

 

Bought it new, currently 52,000 kms. Never had a single issue. I change the fluids twice as often as recommended.

That's a very general question. Reliability can also be viewed as relative (e.g. to other / competing brands). My opinion? Very reliable. My 2005 Silverado LT CC 5.3 has 95k miles on it with never a single problem. Recently purchased a 2019 Silverado 1500 LTZ CC to replace it and my Grand Cherokee Overland, love it so far.

 

However, I also know that all newer vehicles (regardless of brand) have more technology, electronics, sensors, etc. The more sophisticated something is, and the more moving parts something has, the higher the relative propensity for a part to fail during the lifetime you own it.

Go buy a nice clean 1999 to 2006 LS 4.8L or 5.3L before any of the Bull$hit AFM/DFM were introduced.  They are reliable. Now the tailgate handle might fall off and doors will rattle but the engine will run forever!

 

I believe that anything can be reliable as long as the owner services it and keeps up in the maintenance regularly.  (Except for a Ford😂😂) 

 

My father has stated it’s cheaper to fix a GM truck than other trucks. Especially the older models.

Call me skeptical, but I think the OP is not even remotely interested in buying a truck or getting our thoughts and inputs on Silverado's or Sierra's.  I became suspicious when he/she included a link (mobdro kodi) for "free streaming TV" on Android products or Amazon Fire Stick.  The link is strategically placed where someone reading the post might go, "hmmm...I wonder what this is?"  Full disclosure - I Googled it instead if clicking on the link.  It seems harmless enough, BTW, but nevertheless my IT manager's head would explode if I tried to open it without conducting due diligence.

 

Oh...and the OP's "name"...is a interestingly very close to a fictional Japanese manga/anime character named Naruto Uzumaki.

 

I'll be the first to admit I could be mistaken, but this doesn't pass the "smell test" to me.

 

@Naruto Uzamaki - I apologize in advance if I am completely off the mark.

I'll bite.

 

I will go off and say I haven't had any real issues with my 2019 LT Z71 5.3 8 speed Silverado and have over 17k miles with on and off towing.  Only concerns have been the usual 8 speed shutter (but keep it in sport or tow and it's ok) and the DIC will sometimes freeze the volume level over the other screens.  Easily replicated and even easier to get rid of when it happens.  Other than that, it's been a good truck and better than my 2013 Tundra was in certain way.  Mainly MPG.

 

BUT, if I were to have gone through it differently rather than saying I WILL get a Silverado and done my research.  I would have gone with a RAM.  They seem to have far less issues and their interior is much better than the Silverado.

 

If you want to really see how reliable a vehicle is.  Go to any forum and see if they have a help me or troubleshooting or issues section on the forum.  If you look on here, you'll see what issues this truck has and what to stay away from.

      Factory front brake rotors...defect?

      On my wife's 2020 Blazer (~69000 miles), we started to notice the brakes pulsating at faster speeds. Typically around town you don't notice anything, but highway/interstate driving you will notice it. I decided to pull of the front tires and look at the brakes. I figured with the milage, the pads should be wearing out to their life span, but they actually looked decent. Still with "meat" on them. One pad has a ridge wearing in it, and that same rotor is showing the ridge too. That's not the concerning part...the other rotor appears to have a raised bump on it!  The picture make it look like a pimple! Very odd and strange! NOTE: These are the factory brakes and rotors.   I'm attaching pictures of the front brakes and what they look like ate ~69000 miles.

      2024 Chevrolet 2500 HD Custom 6.6 Gas Canadian built Truck  I tried to search for my previous thread on this topic but cant find it so my apoligies  for starting another one    #1   Since we have owned our truck purchased new it has this strange noise after using the remote start function  you press the remote start and you hear it start but right at the end of it starting it almost seems like it wants to start again after the truck is running .   There is no gap in time it is right at the end of the start . Almost sounds like when you have started a car/truck and its running and then you try and start it again and you get that grinding noise ,sort of     #2  You can only hear this if you are standing outside of the truck and near the truck  you cant hear it when you start the truck from inside  the cab . So it may very well be happening when starting the truck that way as in normally    #3   This only happens when it is started after sitting . For how long I don't know but it happens after sitting overnight for sure and it wont do it if you stop the engine after starting and then start it again  I have had it in to the Dealership before concerning this but they did not have the truck  when it was cold to hear it . Now its back in the Dealership left it overnight so they could possibly hear the problem . They said they tried and nothing happened . Well they did not know what they were listening for . I started the truck remotely and BINGO it makes the noise . Oh that sounds weird they say . We need to look into it ! I have left for this week at the Dealership    Does your 2024 2500 HD gas do this ?  Any of you fellas care to take the time and trouble to film this operation from a cold start  so I can hear what your sound like  Really  would like to know if this is anormal sound  Thank You Fellas !!

      2026 Z71.  The other day I was backing a trailer into the barn.  The alarm was going off just because the trailer was in the field of the warning sensors when you get too close to something.  For some reason now the warning alarm doesn't work anymore.  It used to go off when I was just normally backing my truck into garage.  I still have the guidelines in the back up camera.  Is there a button or something to push to turn the sound/Alarm on and off?  I have the touch screen in this truck.  There isn't a "P" on the dash except for the parking brake.  I can't find anything in the touch screen under settings or vehicle.  Thank you in advance.

      Well one of our most reliable vehicles was sold yesterday. The first and only I gave for free to a grandkid. If they got skin in the game they take care of it. My wife bought new. Five years later my daughter got it to use. We got it back and gave it to our grandson after graduation. He did zero maintenance just oil changes. When the AC quit he drove his mother’s car rather than get it fixed. Instead he just bought a beater and sold the Elantra.

      I usually do as well or better than the sticker for mileage. Usually better going west than east. North then South. Wind makes a difference. I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist. But it did dawn on me I’m going by the vehicle calculation. Now that would be interesting.
