Following the thread:  2021 Trail Boss 6.2L  Julian Date from block: N121081 which should be 03/22/2021

 

Am in the clear on the lifter issue?

The first 7 digits on mine were T221077. Which means T-Tonawanda, 2-2nd shift, 21-2021, 077- the 77th day of the calander year. Which was 3-18-21.

Any trucks built after 3-4-21 should be fine. That is the break point.

You should be fine. Mine was built on 3-18-21 and I have 13,000 on the clock and she runs great! Break point for questionable engines was 3-4-21.

Thanks, getting close to the 8k mark on the odometer, glad to know this issue is potentially behind me.

Anyone……What engine plant is “A”?  Just picked up my 21 Trail Boss 5.3 that was built on 8/31/21 so hopefully out of the woods!

Look like I missed the cut off by 1 week, I am running Pulsar LT to shut off DFM and Auto-Stop.

 

Can you tell me what plant?

All AFM/DFM lifters are inferior to the 2500-3500 lifters and could fail. Its just that the ones from September 2020 - March 2021 are even more subject to failure.  If durability is more important to you than fuel mileage, buy a 2500.

Engine was built in US truck was assembled in the Mexico plant, many if not most of the parts are shipped in.

My ZR2 was built in mexico but my engine was Tennessee.

Yeah I get that, but according to Firehawk99, my engine was built in mexico even thought the window sticker says US.

I could be wrong but you have the 5.3. Which is only built at Tonawanda NY-T, Spring Hill TN-N St Catherine's Canada-K and Mexico which I believe is A. I'll have to double check.

Thanks for info.  Yeah, I guess it wouldn't be out of the realm if the window sticker was wrong.  Heck, they built my truck with the wrong back window (no tint at all!!), had to have that replaced.  If you do find out for sure what "A" plant is I would like to know, just because of my curious nature if nothing else.  Thanks again!

      Not a distraction. You miss the point of the article. It's not just for today's situation. Another way AI is being used and it may explain some of the prices changes when there is no apparent event to cause a 25 cent jump out of nowhere, only to immediately, the next day, begin to drop by 2 cents and so on. These situations were happening before the Iran thing fired off.   I used to be in the retail gas/service business. Pretty much a $1 increase in WTI would increase my price by maybe .10 cents. Now WTI can go down and retailers can get hit with a .35 cent increase out of nowhere.   I thought it was interesting read, since this is being used on all products we buy now

The good news: it takes exactly one drive to verify on your own truck. Steps below. What "free" actually costs Effort, every drive. It's a routine, not a setting. Shift to M, tap up to 5, every time you get in. There is no set-and-forget here. 6th gear. When GM shipped trucks with AFM/DFM switched off during the 2021 chip shortage, its own estimate of the penalty was about 1 MPG — and those trucks kept every gear. In M5 you're also giving up overdrive, so expect the highway hit to be bigger than that. Patience. One Tahoe owner ran the L5 routine for two months, then got tired of it and bought a plug-in disabler — he had an extended warranty, so flashing a tune was off the table. That's not a knock on the method.
