Yep I had the Thrush with duel exhaust on my 75 Impala, 350 4bbl turbo 350 trans with a B&M shift kit. I believe it was the first year for the cats well it came off when the duels and headers were put on. If I remember right the hush thrush was the oval muffler and the thrush was the straight through muffler. Man I miss those days the 4bbl opened and the duels blowing out under the rear bumper. Nothing like the sweet sound of a 4bbl.

I believe I bought it in 1980 and I got it for 1500 bucks with something like 60,000 miles on it.

Quick story had a friend of mine one day in his 72 Chevelle in front of me as we got onto the highway off an entrance ramp he took off and I jumped to the middle lane running beside keeping up with him with just the 2bbl open as I could feel in the pedal where the 4bbl would open I let him have the 4bbl and walked past him, saw him the next day and he said "man I thought I had you till I heard the 4bbl open up.

Actually the thrush muffler was like a glass pack with squared off ends. Hush thrush looked like a reg muffler. I never used those. Glass packs had a raspy sound. Thrush had a deeper sound, more classy. I has 13 impalas. Starting with a 64ss ending with a 94ss.

Do you like calling attention to your self?  That's all the the loud exhaust does for you, tires squeal cops hear you guess who gets stopped? You can be loud but not out of line, most of the Mustangs are just loud they don't sound good just loud.  Back in the day I had a pretty good old Chevelle, 396 4 speed that had been worked on, so it was a true 10 second quarter mile car.  I kept the stock exhaust on it along with the hubcaps so it was a total sleeper to anyone who did not know me, I looked for the loud cars and trucks because most of them could not get out of there own way.  Just an old guy digging up the past, my $0.02 worth. :jester:

Quickest car in the town I lived in as a young adult was owned by the local speed shop and the  machinist at the there the builder tuner. 66 Olds 442 sporting a kill'a BDS blown 468 Chevy TH400 Dana 60 combo in a well set up tubbed ladder. Thing would hold a wheel stand a city block, was street legal and silenced by a brace of 4 Cadillac mufflers. A real Whisper Jet 😉

Yeah, first think I did what flip the air cleaner lid so I could hear the 4bbl open up.  Oh that sweet sound.  I also installed a B&M shift kit in the Turbo 400.  Nice clean shifts.

I had a friend in high school that thought he got one over on his Dad when his Dad agreed to let him put duals and glass packs on the family car. Friend was bad about trying to sneak out or come home after curfew. No sneaking out after the exhaust hack. One night after he had been out on an early date he tried to "sneak" back home late by shutting off the engine uphill of the house and coasting down the driveway. The over rich condition caused by the duals dumped gas in the exhaust so when he shut the engine off it backfired and blew up one of the cherry bombs. Woke the whole neighborhood.

His Dad laughed hard every time he told that story.

When my friend bought his own car it was so quiet a Singer sewing machine made more noise.

Lesson learned.

😂😂😂😂😂 thats valid.  Mine backfires like crazy.  My neighbor alsoi formed me she uses me for a alarm since i leave for school every morning at 7:15 on the dot

Are you getting any codes? You shouldn't be backfiring.

It's not a back fire just a burble I am willing to bet. Mine does the same thing when I get off the gas. Just life with headers

Idk what else it would be that literally sounds like a gunshot. Only really does it every once in a while. Other times just gurgles.

Where we use to live, our neighbors son had a pickup that had a super loud exhaust.  Very popular with the teenagers around here.  He would crank it up at 6:00am.  We didn't need an alarm either.

I've never had an exhaust on a vehicle I owned until I bought my 2020 Silverado and installed the GM Performance exhaust.  I'm in my 40s.

    • Are you going to take long trips in it?  If so, try out the seats in the various trims. For me the lower trim level seats were not comfortable.
    • I have a 2016 that I bought new and still own. I'm around 129,000 miles now. The biggest problem was a transmission failure about 2 years ago around 95000 miles. No warning, just failed while driving down a back road. A reman GM transmission installed and it's been fine ever since. A few other minor problems along the way. I am in no hurry to replace it. It's been paid off long ago and do plan on driving this as long as I can.   I will admit I am leery about all the additional electronics in the newer models and feel that it is just more potential problems. I think there's actually more than I would have wanted in this 2016 but so far so good. I think even if something major like lifter failure happened, it would still be cheaper to at worst, drop a new engine in than buy a new vehicle.
    • I’ve own several successful businesses. I’ve bought homes and lived in different states. I’d witness several generations buy homes and survive in different economic circumstances. You get awful sippy when people have different experiences than you do. You live a life. I’ve lived a life. It seems our experience has been different. You can point out generalized statistics. Some people learn how to thrive when the odds are against them. Living in different states does make a difference in a persons quality of life and economic outcomes and opportunities. That’s a fact Jack. It’s my truth, my life. Hard work and long hours the right environment made my families life easier. And yes moving to a different state increased the odds of that happening. Stats are generalized. People who thrive don’t make excuses. They beat the odds. Others get mad and point to those statistics. I guess that’s you. My post pointed out how you helped people beat the odds. Somehow your panties got in a wad. Go figure.
