2021 Sierra 1500 AT4 tire road noise unbearable at 50-60 MPH

I have a 2021 1500 AT4 with 28K miles on it.  Everything was great until the first oil change.  They rotated the stock tires, and when I drove home, at 57-60 MPH the tires mad such a bad noise you could not hear the radio.  I drove it around for a week and took it back and had them change the tires back to the original position.  The noise went away.

 

Now, as I need a new oil change, the tires have started making the noise again. At roughly the same MPH 57-60.  It's really bad and not pleasant to drive.

 

Has anyone else had this problem?  Any ideas on what to do?

As a side note, on the first oil change they found a fuel leak in the fuel hose.  Had to replace the entire assembly.

I'm assuming you have the 18" Duratracs.  Welcome to the club.  It only gets worse.  But new tires or turn the radio up.  This is a well known problem.  Many threads on this subforum regarding this issue.  As the tires wear they will get noisier.

If the alignment is off, it will cause an irregular wear pattern that can cause the tires to howl.  Can also happen if you do not rotate often, the rears will get a "chop" to them and they will howl.  A burnout can cure that!

My friend has those Duratracs on his Z71 and every time he drives by I can hear the tires making noise. Says the same thing, very noisy and terrible in the snow.  And as typical with these type tires, the more the wear the worse the noise will get.  Probably rotating every 5,000 from new will improve the noise but not for long...The more aggressive the tread the more a wear pattern will form and that's what causes noise.

 

They are intended for the off-road...non hard pavement driving..

As mentioned above, the DuraTracs are hit or miss on noise levels.  I know of some that have gone 40k miles and were fairly quiet while others howled from day 1. 

 

One thing that definitely affects the noise level is proper rotation intervals.  I rotated mine every 5k miles initially and had no noise related issues at all.  I got lazy and let them go almost 10k miles once and the tires began to cup, resulting in a significant road noise increase between 50-60 mph hour, give or take a few mph.  Early and often rotations are extremely important on aggressive tires with large tread blocks, especially on 4WD's. 

 

Sometimes you can correct the cupping issues with more frequent rotations, but once they start to cup it's HARD to correct the issue.  If it bothers you as much as it sounds like from your posts, your best bet is to purchase a new set of tires that are less aggressive.

Dumped my Duratracs after about 9K, just way too annoying for me.  Sold them on craigslist which took a bite out of the cost of the replacements.  They sure do look good, but much better options out there.

I wonder if this had anything to do with GM using a different tire on the Silverado ZR2?  Duratracs are available in the OE size the ZR2 has.  Can anybody elaborate on this?

As of today 2/7/2023 to summarize,

First, there was a fuel leak

Second, after the tire rotation you simply cannot hear anything when traveling between 55 -61 mph

Third, had an oil leak

Fourth, I have a DEF leak and the dealer said it was normal!  Normal??  I have white crystals all over my garage floor!

This is a joke.
