newdude Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 Grain of salt. I'll believe it when I see it. These power and tow rating wars are annoying and pointless. Of everything they talked about, the only logical reasoning I can see this 8.3 being remotely true is emissions and efficiency. Bigger displacement would have to work less hard, which could then reduce emissions outputted from the engine. 1 Quote

That goes completely opposite to the rest of the industry which is using smaller and smaller engines turned up to level 11 to reduce emissions. Edited January 31, 2024 by the wanderer Quote
asilverblazer Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 I saw the 'report' too and my thoughts are: The 6.6 isn't significantly disadvantaged compared to the current segment power figures lead. Why the need for such a large displacement increase? Despite the large displacement increase power figures didn't seem as comparatively large. The rumored displacement of 8.3L is oddly specific, I wonder if it is for a future GAS engine, investment for GAS engines is already confirmed. They had a level of confidence in their source and the prospects of the engine, but to me it doesn't quite add up. Quote
davidm767 Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 I cant imagine a lot of people buy personal HD trucks yet alone work trucks based solely on engine stats. It boils down to the looks of the truck, brand loyalty, and especially price as the much bigger factors. Personally, I came from a Ford family and owned a two Fords in my younger years. But when it came time to replace my 1/2 ton with an HD 3/4 ton diesel truck I looked at the stickers of the F250 and Ram 2500 and the GM trucks sold themselves. I'm just not in mindset to pay an extra $25-30k for a similarly equipped truck. I have zero regrets about the decision as well, I love my '24 LTZ. 3 Quote
Rick_ Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 Maybe there is a different emissions standard for a higher power output pickup? Ag tractors over 750hp have much less stringent emission requirements - slightly higher PM and much higher NOx (no DEF)... Quote
NaturallyAspirated Posted February 24, 2024 Posted February 24, 2024 Probably have something up their sleeve tho, Duramax HD trucks contribute to GM sales BIGLY. Quote
asilverblazer Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Digging this old thread up - I haven't seen anything about this since the original story broke. Has anyone else seen any updates or news? Quote

Has anyone else seen any updates or news? I haven't seen/heard anything. Next gen 1500 mules are out (spy shots on the homepage of this site), 2026 calendar year for 2027 model year is the projected date for those to hit, so HD will probably be a year behind those since the HD refresh came late in 2024 vs. the 1500 refresh which was mid 2022 model year. Pryme Posted March 12 Posted March 12 In other news I read Ram is bringing back the V8 to the half tons. That didn’t take long. Quote

Isn't it scary how one bumbling clown at the top can make very destructive decisions that tank the entire organization? Makes you think, doesn't it. Quote
