Mine failed the pico test at just over 40,000 miles. 

Darn, maybe I should have waited will mine hit 40k. Maybe they would have found something at higher mileage. I guess I just continue to sweat.

I had the impression the ECM recall was to put in a failsafe for when the 10-speed transmission goes?

TCM controls the transmission, not the ECM.

That's an entirely different recall.  Reprogramming the TCM (transmission control module) to detect the feed limit low failure before transmission lockup.

 

This thread is about the 6.2 engine failures.  Those get an ECM flash (engine control module) to detect the P0016 code more accurately and try and detect engine failure before it locks up running.

UPDATE

I was at my Chevy dealer picking up a chrome exhaust tip for my 2026 3500HD today.

I looked in the shop area and saw my 23 High Country 6.2,

( I recognized it because of the aftermarket chrome wheels), that I just dumped end of Sept.

It was in pieces with a new motor sitting next to it. I asked and they said it threw a rod a week after the new owner bought it. 57,000 miles. I knew this was going to be a problem so I got rid of it.

Tell me I'm not smart.

Meanwhile my new 6.6 gasser purrs like a kitten.

Dang, bad luck for that guy. I can't believe it passed the pico test then blew up right after. Hope mine doesn't do that! I'm just about to roll 36K

For those that have had the test done, and are "not yet" (according to the recall) exhibiting failure symptoms:

 

Where do you buy the appripriate 0w-40 for doing your own oil changes, or simply adding oil? Walmart carries Mobil 1  - 0w-40 Euopean Car formula, but I don't think it's the same as the new spec for our trucks. Or, is it?

I keep this in my Amazon cart, but it was too high priced a few months back when I changed the oil in my truck and the Camaro ZL1, so I ended up getting the Amsoil Signature series gallon jugs for less. They offer a standard version for about 30% less for those wanting to save some $.

Thanks for the Amazon link. That's actually cheaper than the Amsoil stuff, and the Amsoil doesn't meet the Dexos R designation, either. The only problem with the Mobil 1 on Amazon is that they sell 6 qts. at a time, when we need 8 qts.

Actually Walmart has it even cheaper and you're able to get the case plus singles there. Regarding Amsoil, it does meet Dexos R according to their website. So I'm not sure where you got that. There's quite a few guys that use it on the Camaro and Vette forums as well so I have zero hesitation in using it in my truck.

Rockauto 7.26 a quart 

a few other oils now meet the dexos R standard so there is more choices don't have to get the supercar oil.

According to Mobil 1's website all 0W40 are Dex OS R certified. The bottles in stores still don't list it on the packages though.

Yeah it exceeds it. @Black02Silverado can address that. Since it’s defective engine I doubt Amsoil will warranty it. Sad GM.
