Glad to see the official warranty extension and not just hearsay in internet articles. I special ordered my truck and planned to keep it till as long as possible. This makes me much more comfortable in keeping it even though I had an extended warranty for 7 years and 100K miles I bought when I bought the truck.

If I remember reading it correctly, I believe the warranty is only for the short block, so it's not complete engine coverage, and likely good that you got that extended warranty.

Did you READ the bulletin posted? It covers EXACTLY the same as what the replace engine bulletin covers, the COMPLETE engine and related accessories, NOT the short block.

I am also glad to see it.  However, I am disappointed in the scope of coverage.  It is not a complete engine warranty, the only coverage is for the specific defects names in the recall.  So if there is some other engine failure (e.g. lifter), this extended warranty will not help.

I was hoping for extended coverage on the whole engine.

No need to YELL at me.

That said, of course I read it, that's how I know it does not cover the entire engine. Below are the two important pieces definitvely stated in the extended coverage bulletin, verbatim:

1) Certain vehicles listed above, may have a condition where the connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine
components in these vehicles may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.
This special coverage covers if an engine failure occurs in the vehicle as a result of the condition
described above for a period of 10 years or 150,000 miles (240,000 km)...

2) If the vehicle has a valvetrain or other top end issue, it is NOT COVERED under this special coverage.

There you have it. Short block only. This is, by far, not nearly as good of a warranty as the extended warranty you bought, although it is longer interms of time and mileage.

It is an ENTIRE engine replacement. The lifter failure is a SEPARATE issue NOT covered by this warranty. If it fails due to connecting rod/crank/bearing failure the ENTIRE engine gets replaced NOT the short block.

Please dont take this the wrong way, but you don't understand what some of us are trying to explain here.

While, of course the entire engine would be replaced if something in the short block fails, this latest bulletin explicitly states that the extended warranty only applies if rod/crank-related part(s) fail(s), meaning that the warranty does not cover any other failures. On the other hand, the extended warranty you purchased does cover other failures.

Hopefully, that helps you now understand what we have been trying to convey, because I don't know if I would be able to better word this. If it still doesn't make sense, maybe someone else on here with a better command of words can chime in.

The bearing failure runs debris through the ENTIRE engine and oil cooler. That's why the ENTIRE engine and radiator and hoses get replaced for this failure. The lifter failure is a totally different issue with faulty lifters. You can replace lifters and not need to replace the entire engine as the lifters stop rolling and freeze up. It may require a new cam if the frozen lifter is run long enough to damage the cam lobes. It creates nowhere near the debris the smoked bearings do.

The extended warranty.  Yes, it covers for the 6.2 defect issue.  Yes, if a lifter fails, this does NOT offer coverage as lifter failure is a separate issue.

However.  IF it does have the 6.2 bottom end failure as the warranty covers, it is NOT A SHORT BLOCK.  GM does NOT do short blocks.  ITS A LONG BLOCK.  You get the entire engine minus manifolds and fuel system.  No short block.

It's interesting that they specifically mention the valvetrain is not covered by this warranty, and is a separate issue. Is this a setup to protect themselves because they know lifters will fail, and when they do they don't have to cover anything? Like maybe this gives them the opportunity to claim that the bottom end failed because a piece of a broken lifter fell into the short block causing a problem, enabling them to deny coverage under the lower end warranty? Would they really do something like that? Or is there something else I missed somewhere regarding lifters?

the real issue here is Metaldyne Performance Group who supplies most of the powdered metal forged and machined rods ASSEMBLED by Tonawanda.  As recent as 2021, JD Norman Industries sued Metaldyne over connecting rods that did not meet the required specifications.  JD Norman went chapter 7 in 2021 and lost GM, it's largest customer.  However, Metaldyne is still supplying the rods to GM for small block chevy's.......... make your own conclusions here but having family at Delphi, GM doesn't make much but they assemble a lot of parts from Tier 1 and other suppliers... Harrison Radiator pre-dating Delphi and supplied to GM.... GM didn't "make air conditioning or radiators" the same way they don't cast or machine rods, but Tonawanda (Silao and Ontario->Oshawa) should have a QC process for rod bore diameters but they obviously do not, and rely on revolutions or torque, neither of which would identify small bore diameters, it'd just gut buried into the rod via revolutions or torqued until it hit the spec regardless of the diamater.

GM didn't "retool", my dad was an apprentice and a tool and die maker, what GM likely actually did was call up the tier one supplier and told Metaldyne you fix your ****** or you're losing the contract!!  I highly doubt they are going to slow down assembly to check every bore diameter and the people running robotic hands would require the training to read a bore gauge, production would come to more or less a stop compared to the pace they run at now.

No engines are produced in Oshawa.

I mean I dont think it is out of the realm the longer this goes on.

The lifter issues have been present since these engines first debut with my 2014 and for the most part and they are never going to offer a fix or compensation for it. This issue is far worse as it takes the entire engine, some within the first drive home from buying the truck, GM was essentially forced to issue this recall. If this was a common issue that would at least last a few 10 or 20 thousand miles like the lifter issues have been, they most likely would of done nothing but fix the ones they would be forced too under warranty.

There was a window of known bad lifters in 2020-2021.  Otherwise they've got a much lower failure rate than these bad 6.2s.

Wasn't that the springs debacle back in mid 2020 to March 2021? I think I looked after mine arrived off the truck and it was an April build date on the engine so I was relieved. NHTSA's site says I'm part of this current recall, but I need to get under there and check again for the exact date.

I'm not even sure it's worth my time to take it to the local dealer given my upgrades. Just swap out the oil and pray nothing happens until I get the funds and replace all the internals myself. I do have a decent report with them...I suppose the worse they can tell me is no.
