I got my recall notice from GM Canada a couple of weeks ago. I took it to the dealer and they said there's no need to do anything. I'm under warranty until 100,000 km (50,000 on it now) so just leave it; if the engine fails it will be covered under warranty. He said why change the engine now when you can get it changed at 99,000 if it needs it.

Sounds questionable. I'm going to phone GM Canada and ask them.

It is a safety issue. If the engine grenades on the freeway at 75 mph in the middle of rush hour traffic, it is truly a safety issue. Also, GM estimates that only 3% will need replacement. With the inspection to determine that it does not need replacement you then get an extended warranty that more than doubles the warranty on the engine.
I would report the dealer and find another dealer for future work.

I spoke to GM Canada today. They said the recall notice is out but the solution is not available yet. I have to wait until I get a second letter stating that the parts are available before they can do anything. In the meantime, keep driving and bring it to the dealer if you have any issues.

Finally got my recall notice. Just says parts not available and dealer will contact me when they are available.
Im anxious to get the inspection done, then I will have some idea of what the future holds.

Nothing from GM Canada to me yet.......

With 600,000 vehicles to recall they can't  possibly service all of them this week yet everyone expects that.

I tell you at this point, GM's 6.2 engine has been one of it's least reliable engines they have ever created, and that is saying something! This recall doesn't even touch the fact that these engines have been eating lifters since 2014!

At last my truck got in for testing. It passed, now have heavier oil and a new oil cap. And a 150K warranty on the engines lower end 🙂

Now I’ll have to endure oil changes that are $50 higher in cost.

Mine passed as well, as did my son’s.

I don’t know why your oil changes would be more expensive.

The oil GM calls for is $17.68 a quart at GM MSRP.  GM is however adding another 0W-40 option to DexosR spec that is cheaper, and they are starting a $50 rebate for customer pay using the Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 they call for at the moment.

Also if you look at the Preferred Cost when you look at the Signature Series 0w-40 it's a lower cost than GM's.

The specified oil, Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40, is about $6/qt more than the standard 0W-20. Since the truck takes 8 qts that would be $48 plus tax.

More expensive oil and lower fuel economy. They seem to gloss over the fact that 0w20 was used for a reason. And the reason was to meet emissions standards….
it sounds like we the vehicle owner lose all around.

Oil viscosity is not going to affect the MPG in an extreme like you are suggesting.  Its about 1-2% going from 0w20 to 0w40.  The EPA rating on a 6.2 Silverado is 15mpg city, 20mpg highway and 17mpg combined.  So at best its 0.3-0.5mpg drop.  When Ford switched from 5w30 to 5w20 they claimed a 0.6% change in economy.

There are WAY more important factors to MPG, regardless of oil like tire pressure, alignment, tire type and size, if you are stock or lifted, air dam deletes, weather, temperature, etc. I can go on and on.

If 0w20 was about emissions, then the Corvette and Camaro wouldn't be using 0w40.  And being they are cars, they are more scrutinized for emissions than trucks.

So...yea.  Seems like just some sort of an attempt to jump on the class action that was started about this whole "fuel economy" thing.
