The G80 RPO code for locking differential has meant the Eaton Gov lock since it's introduction in 1973 in a pickup truck... not the mid 80's. G80 also is the same code used for a limited slip in a passenger car application until today. If you had a limited slip after 1973 in a truck it's RPO code G86. I would have to go look in my RPO code guide to see what the Detroit Locker's RPO code was because it was an option in the 10.5" 14 bolt through the 90's. GM recycles RPO codes constantly and uses them in multiple applications. It's just a code... If you had a 1969 Chevy truck with positraction as per the sticker in the glove box ( it's a clutch pack limited slip back then) it's RPO was still G80. The 9.5" and 9.76" 12 bolt is a redesign of the 9.5" 14 bolt which debuted in 1979. Yes you could install a Gov lock from a 1979 model year truck in your 2019.2 points

You're welcome. So regarding our existing harnesses plugging in, yes they do. Identical plug and play. However the factory harness does not have all the circuits for all the mirror features. That's where the replacement harnesses come in. Depending on what model you have, there are several part numbers GM has put out. They don't seem to be available though since I spent all day Friday calling around and the numbers exist, but are not available to order. Yes, it does suck they don't power fold. However, as time goes on, we should be able to find part numbers for mirrors that do. The mirrors I bought are on the GM Accessories site, and are pretty basic. However, you can spec a new 2020 with an LTZ or High Country trim w/Tow Mirrors and it says it can have power fold, 360 vision, etc. So they do exist. They also have chrome caps on the higher trims as well. On a side note, these mirrors fold much easier, yet still have all the tensile strength as the K2 Tow Mirrors did. When you push to fold them, the mirror makes an upward then backwards movement and folds pretty close to the truck. I'm sure all the options will come available soon enough.1 point

It sure can vary. Thanks be to the Gas Buddy app but still mostly find that my regular stations have the best prices anyhow. The current tank is all Chevron 93 with two bottles of Techron and the needle is barely moving with that stuff. I drove ten miles out and back the other day and only lost about 6 miles on the Fuel Range! If I can purchase Mobil or Chevron for less than $3.00 a gallon I'll run it over E85. When running that E15/Unleaded 88, I add a couple gallons of E85 to bring up the alcohol content, the motor generally gets better mileage on that too and it costs less as well. My last tank with an alcohol content of 20% cost just fourteen cents a mile to drive. The record for this thing is thirteen cents a mile. That tank also delivered my second longest distance between refuelings, the longest was on gasoline. Burning E85 the truck can easily do 300 miles, the record is 340. She'll do 100 miles more on gasoline or E15/E20 with a record of 442. My last trip out of state with continuous driving was just before we began this log. So no uninterrupted highway runs yet. Mathematically she should see 468 miles between tanks on a highway run with E0-E20.1 point

I run Detroit lockers in every truck I own minus my 2013 because i haven't installed it yet. Even my 2017 has one. Does what I want it to do every time and is predictable as hell doing it. The Trutrac is pretty mickey mouse... and honestly lots of people get 200000 + miles from Auburns too... or oem G80s... or anything really. I use a Trutrac in one of my trucks front diffs as it better than being open... and they work well at that. Even the OEM's only use the Trutrac in front axles as that is where it does well on a truck... Not my cup of tea but its better than an open diff until it ultimately becomes one all on it's own. The old Gov lock has been around since 1973 in GM trucks and likely will still be used until they replace the axles with electric wheel motors. People mostly like it and it is what it is. If you dislike it you can replace it with whatever suits your fancy and enjoy it.1 point

Haha that’s what trucks are for isn’t it?! nicest work truck I’ve ever had that’s for sure! the tonneau cover is the gm branded one by REV. It’s very nice! Lots of different configurations that it folds into including right up and out of the way for bigger items in the bed. It’s not totally waterproof but good enough for me. And very secure to keep tools secure.1 point

I picked up a set of Goodyear DuraTrac, from Sams Club ( not sure if you have any in your area) ...They had a 1 day sale in November, ( $100 off instantly plus free installation) which they are having again next weekend. I picked up a set of LT 265/75/16 Load range "C" ( 45lb tire) for $729 installed, plus a $50 Goodyear rebate, so out the door installed on my truck for $ 169.75 per tire after rebate...So far I love these tires, awesome in the snow so far, and a pretty quiet ride..I would look into them if you have a Sams club in your area1 point

There is such a thing as: "Mine doesn't do it" and "I have no issues" These trucks do not have a 100% failure rate. Which is what you just claimed in your post. I get that these trucks have problems, and for the people experiencing them it sucks. Bad. But saying that every 8spd transmission is going to nuke itself with your only basis being what you read on this board is terribly misleading. I come to the troubleshooting forum to see what the typical problems for these trucks are, which I am an owner of one. But it seems that all these posts just devolve into name calling...1 point

November MPG Numbers by Year 2016 24.9 2017 25.4 2018 25.3 2019 25.3 It's been awhile since I've seen a November this wet, this cold and this windy. Totally happy with these numbers. Year over year total miles driven per month continue to decline. This also ends the fall term for 2019. Fall Season mpg by Year 2016 25.5 2017 26.8 2018 28.8 2019 29.41 point

The video actually proves that the G80 does an excellent job. It took the RAM 19-ish seconds (8:24 - 8:43) to get moving again and they had to back the truck up because he couldn't make the turn. The Sierra started moving after 7 seconds (10:30 - 10:37) and made the turn look easy. Clear winner. In my book. so long j-ten-ner1 point

Had the CST stage 3 3.5 inch lift installed this week. Loving the ride so far. A little stiffer than I expected but that may be the new LT tires too. The body roll/boat feeling when turning, breaking and hitting speed bumps is gone. Feels much more planted to the road. With that though I can now feel every bump but I'm used to it as my daily driver is a mustang.1 point

Never understood why people bag on the G80. Its perfect for a factory locker when you know what it is and how it works. Ie: Dont baby it. With an electronic locker most people new to it would wind up in a ditch trying to take their first corner in the rain.1 point

I'll take a mechanical locker over and electric solenoid or air system or valve pushing something in place any day. It's simple and it works that's why they have stuck with it.1 point

A video of it not starting is of no use to the dealer or GM. It's not that they don't believe you but they cannot duplicate the concern. Watching it not start isn't any help diagnosing the issue.1 point

Unfortunately, it wont. You need to buy both pieces of the lower bumper off a High Country. The shop purchased directly from our local dealership parts department after getting the VIN off of a High Country (to look up the parts) on the lot.1 point

Allot of focus on cost recently. Wife signed us up for Costco and then got the card. 4% back on gas. Today that pump price on 87 octane is $2.22/gallon. With the 4% card rebate $2.13/gallon. Current lifetime 27.58 mpg or 7.7 cents per mile. That's cheap for a truck. Local average of 87 octane according to GasBuddy is $2.44. National average 17.3 mpg for this set up comes to....14 cents/gallon. 45% below average fuel cost per mile. Funny what rabbits I will run down when bored.1 point

Yes both test was Walmarts SuperTech Full Synthetic. From the same jugs. Pretty good oil for $14.50 per 5 quart jug. Got some Rotella Gas truck 5w20 in the engine now. Probably wont test that one. Then I got Pennzoil 0w20 Probably have the Pennzoil tested to see how it compares to the Super Tech.1 point

Is yours the 2500 or 3500? What’s the hitch weight of your rig? How’s it towing? I’m considering selling my 35’ bumper pull TT and going to a 35-39’ 5er toy hauler (my TT is only a year old so may wait a year to get more use and justify the loss on it). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

We need to get someone working on a wiring diagram to be able to turn on the mirror task lights when the vehicle is driving. If I am driving through the woods at camp during the night, those mirror lights would be real handy Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk1 point
