Are Goodyear and Cooper the only two companies based out of the United States that produce automotive tires? When it comes time for me to get new tires for my truck, I want to buy American.

"Cooper and Goodyear tire companies started out as American manufacturers and have stayed that way to some extent. Goodyear is now an international company, but its world headquarters remain in Akron, Ohio. It also owns the Kelly Springfield and Dunlop brands. Cooper manufactures tires in Ohio and Georgia; Goodyear in Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, New York and Kansas. Denman Tire, founded in 1919, is based in Ohio."

I would buy the Cooper over the Goodyear any day of the week.

I like to look at TireRack.com to see where tires are made. You can look at a specific tire and the specs tab will show you where the tires are manufactured. Some brands have the same tires made in different countries.

cooper also manufactures tires in Texarkana, Arkansas. Not sure which tire lines. Will have to check with some of my buds to see which ones are built there.

I won't buy a domestic tire, b/c the reviews are terrible, or they are expensive, and if people keep buying terrible and/or expensive tires made in the US, then they are going to continue to make terrible/expensive tires here in the US. I buy what I like, with disregard to who makes it.

BFG's are excellent tires, but way too pricey, and Cooper is are pretty proud of their stuff as well. They are the only two I would even consider.

That's the spirit James! I have not had the best of luck with Goodyear personally but a lot of the trucks at work run them and they do a good job! I have heard very good things about Cooper! What are you planning on getting?

I had General Grabber AT2s on my Tacoma. Depending on size they were made in different places but mine were made here according to Tire Rack. They were great tires, nearly half the price of the BFG ATs and based on how they were wearing when the truck was traded I'd expect them to easily of gone 50k+ miles if not way more.

I was told by a local tire store that Michelin owns BFG, that is why they have set pricing regardless where you shop. Kind of like Oakley sunglasses, Bose stereos, etc...

I have owned both Cooper, and BFG's. Liked both. The Cooper model I wasn't overly impressed in the wet, sloppy snow, but it was 1 step down (maybe Diescover ST) from their most aggresive tire. But never had any issues with eother.

Goodyear- Came stock on my 2k Chevy, and they wore out in about 34k miles!
