Is it washable or what?

No it's just a dry filter, claims to be good for 100k miles. Volant had two options, this filter or the cotton gauze with oil, read around online and people say that the power core (Donaldson) filter is top notch. I figured 100k miles was good enough for me, always hated oiling that k&n on my other truck, plus truck would be down for half a day letting it air dry then letting the oil seep in

I'm sure it'd still filter fine, but no matter how good of a filter it is, eventually it has to fill up and it won't flow. I'm sure for a lot of people that's well over 100k miles, haha.

Haha! The ex bought a Grand Prix once with 133k miles on it. I'm pretty sure it was the original air filter. It crumbled as I took it out.

We can move this air filter discussion over to chat chit, no problem. Let me just say I am VERY pleased with the results so far after 1 full day of driving the truck with the drop in filter. As for what I did today? I charged up the 2 batteries under the hood, both were a bit low but not terrible. I do pull a lot of power using my emergency equipment and radios from time to time. I'm thinking about researching to see if there is a higher output alternator out there available for the Duramax. There was an option from the factory to have 2 alternators installed at the time of build, but this truck only has 1. Going to stop by NAPA tomorrow and see what they say, also might swing by my friends at the emergency vehicle equipment installation shop and see if they have any thoughts as well.

I also cleaned out the garage a bit more, and took mom's POS Hyundai Santa Fe out for a little test drive to see if I can hear the squealing noise she insists upon is there from time to time, yet which I can't hear. Being half deaf may have something to do with that though.

100k in normal conditions. I have 60k in dusty environments and am about due to change it

Another fun one today. Rusted out '00 C1500 peeing gas everywhere right above the transmission linkage. All 3 lines so bad I couldn't tell which one it was. Truck ran ok, and didn't even have a light on for EVAP - couldn't believe that one!

Had to hack the lines out with my tubing cutter, right behind the engine and right up against the firewall where there's absolutely no room to move. Cut the line and installed a hose. Truck isn't long for this world anyway. Double clamped the feed, single on the return. Good 'nuff.

Of course, while I was doing that, laying on top of the engine on a piece of plywood, I elbowed the heater hose, and the entire thing snapped clean off the heater core. Unbelievable!! This has got to be one of THE DUMBEST things GM has ever engineered in it's long history! This takes the cake. PLASTIC! Serves no purpose but to create an unreliable connection that you won't be able to fix on the side of the road. Whoever designed this thing should be beaten to a bloody pulp!!:mad::mad:

Didn't have the stupid tool for it, so I just Dremeled it off with a cookie. Then, slipped the hose right onto the stub - no stupid plastic fitting needed! Why the hell do they do this crap??? You'd think they'd see this as a way to save a buck & eliminate a failure prone connector. Nope! Pretty much tells me GM doesn't give a s#$t about building a reliable truck.

Have a look at this abortion ... :sigh:

FIXED!!! Grrrr ...

Here's the fuel line mess. If he gets another couple years out of this thing, I'll be amazed. The hoses will outlast the truck, that I can guarantee.

Shouldn't blame GM for this. It's the Federal Government. And more specifically the party that "CLAIMS" they are gonna save the environment.

Using high tech models that can't predict weather 5 days out to predict the climate in 100 years.

Could have at least changed the filter while under there

If everything rusts as bad as he says up there, it probably was changed

Worked on my radio dash kit some more to try and make it fit better. It fits good now up and down, but I can't do anything to get it better in and out. Whatever.

I don't think that truck will last long enough to plug the filter anyway.

It goes without saying, when this truck comes in, things get fixed whatever way is easiest and cheapest. Might not make it another 50 miles.

You think that's rusted out? I'd love it if my 16 year old truck, that appears to have never been undercoated, looked that good underneath...
