Did you do like I did?  While I was laid up with my broken foot from my head-on collision, I was ordering new parts, so I could do the same mods, that I had on my '15, to my new truck after getting it.  I clicked "order again" on Amazon for most of them, CB Antenna Mount Bracket, Antenna Cable, Rear Stake Hole Plugs/Caps, Rear Frame Plugs, AM/FM Hidden Antenna (found the one that I was going to put in my '15 after it arrived), etc.  Wife and I went to lunch one day, and swung by "the last Radio Shack" in our area, and grabbed some diodes.  I left my '18 alone for 1 week, before I started K.O.-ing some of the mods.  Ordered my Driver's Assist Handle about a month after we bought the truck, Amazon, was worth the $57, compared to trips back/forth to/from dealership.

Don’t really have any major mods planned. Having the front clear filmed and the window trim wrapped right away. Also adding the Black bow tie and maybe a toolbox again? It really has everything I need. Performance wise maybe a CAI?

Yet another failure of my sub-100k-mile Silverado!

Went to do a spill-n-fill of the rear differential, and spotted chunks of metal in the magnet, and all over the bottom of the case. Shined the flashlight up into the carrier, and spotted damaged spider gears, presumably from the piece of crap G80, nicknamed the "grenade-lock" differential for a reason ...

So, I decided to go with a Eaton E-Locker as a replacement. I almost went with the ARB Air Locker, since I already have a compressor, but the added complexity of the internals, plus the air solenoid, air lines, and electrical that just opens the door for more things to fail. The E-Locker might not be the strongest out there, but its perfect for what I do, and installation will be super simple. One wire, a relay, and a dash mounted switch. DONE.

Parts ordered, truck on lift for the foreseeable future ...

It seems that G80 hasn't been improved much in the durability/reliability department since the one on my old 99 blew up at 80,000 miles.  Yeah yeah yeah I know there are plenty of trucks out there that see 200,000+ miles with the G80 not causing an issue.  But there are plenty where there are issues.  When it went out on mine, the axle shop suggested going with the previous gen G80 (on the 98 and prior models) as they seemed to hold up stronger, so I did.  $1600 replacement.  (Back in 2004ish)

Things only get worse with every passing year. I'll bet in 5 years, drivelines and engines will be 100k mile items, if not less ... unless there's a huge shakeup in the auto industry. I won't hold my breath on that one.

Yeah, differential work isn't cheap. My buddy had his entire rear axle rebuilt on his '02 Ram 1500 - cost him $2,200.

Yep had my rear diff rebuilt, everything but the ring gear I think. 84ishk on it. That was just a couple months ago, along with all the other repairs done during the 2 months the dealer had my truck.

Today drove to Gainesville, supposed to be 2 hour trip but the turnpike and I75 wanted me to take over 3 hours instead. I have 1k or more in wheel weights sitting right at the tailgate, truck rode smooth minus that dang shimmy/shake that only I can feel. Leaf pack is making a little bit of noise, probably one of the few times they've been worked. DIC is saying I got 17 mpg, probably could have hit 18 w/o traffic. Not too shabby for over 9k lbs and 10 year old truck. I guess I lose more mpg doing 80-95mph than I thought vs 69 mph.

Also my buddy forgot his tent so my bed has his air mattress and some tarps for a tent, can't do that with these new tiny cars.

I'm pretty sure your truck was the last one built on a Friday of mandatory overtime.

Which also happened to be New Year's Eve ...

So a few months ago my dad bought a wrecked F-150 to flip(actually his seconded F-150)because the frames/ front end are easy to rebuild) While he was getting the frame straightened the guy mentioned the Ford frames were well done, but they had been seeing brand new GM Trucks being sent to them with crooked frames straight from the factory/dealer. Don't know if he was referring to the T1.

I saw a guy in the T1 talking about noticing his brand new truck had a crooked bed that needed to be adjusted(and others saying some of the T1s still have the shake). Wonder if the bed was actually fine. What the heck is going on at GM?

Oh, no, of course not, I'm one of the ones that angers people because I point out how crappy their QC is. But TWO generations of trucks in a row with frame issues. That would be like if Honda or Chrysler re made their bad transmissions with the same bad design, or if Ford  kept making that 90s Cobra with the same manifold error that cost 30HP after they fixed the recalled ones, or Mazda started selling the same RX-8 with the same overrated engine after completing the buybacks. Even stupid errors are learned from.

    • The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.
    • So I purchased the Range unit for my 2026 and I am seeing different locations suggested for the ECM . Can anyone confirm wither under hood, left side or right side or behind the wheelwell?
    • Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.
    • "Life is getting back to normal."    I'm driving again and all new joints are operating as expected for this stage of recovery.   My most recent joint replacement still requires a lot of attention but experience has taught me that time will quiet the remaining pain.  I joked with my surgeon that another joint replacement would take my mind off my most recent surgery and he responded by saying the next will be a hip!  There are no plans for another surgery but, unlike me, I don't think he was joking!  I certainly wouldn't refuse further replacement  if required but hope to spend time out of the "post-op"  period.  I can't stress enough that if you have been recommended for total hip, knee or shoulder replacement that you welcome the offer.  Post-op "recovery" may sound daunting and painful, however, this is far better than the insidious erosion of mobility you are currently experiencing.  Imagine what it would feel like to wake up most mornings feeling better and more mobile than you did the previous day!  Prior to my first surgery in June 2025, even getting out of bed was becoming a formidable task.  Since the day after my first surgery, I get out of bed everyday easily and unassisted.  Making the switch to feeling a little better each day rather than a little worse, is hugely motivating!
